PostSubject: Morning everyone..It's a new week...11/08/2014   Wed Jul 05, 2017 5:30 am

First topic message reminder :

Well, he just said sorry. I keep forgetting that he is 8 hours ahead and
has probably been messing with the Chase stuff for some time before
messaging me. Nothing to be done now until the new card actually
arrives.
I don't think I will be taking these blood pressure pills much longer
they are giving me a headache, don't know if its dehydration or something
else but I have increased my fluid intake in hopes that that is all it is.
I go back in about 10 days so will take them until then.
I am sure she will give me another blood test so we can compare the two.

I need to call the Gastroenterologists office tomorrow to make an appointment.

Finally got all the leaves out of Black Beauty vents and rain channels.

Lorna called and said that Lucy (our neighbor who is now in a retirement
hotel) wants to have a get together like we did last year. Its all last minute
as usual. Luckily I am only down for chips and dip and soft drinks and water.
I also need to get a couple of bags of ice for the ice chest.
I don't even know whose garden we will be in yet!
Now I can go and get my breakfast! I don't do well handling this kind of stuff
as soon as I wake up. TTFN

Its like driving from Lands End to John O'Groats in Scotland
and back about three times!
I am sure Tracie has a cool head and can work out what is best for her.
At least you have heard from her. I know it won't stop you worrying about her
though.

Melanie was in surgery for about 10 hours all told.
Jim was told everything went according to plan, all scar tissue removed
and they took a small piece of her stomach as well(not going to be a
problem but just a preventative measure.) I think it was because of the
fistulas as they can grow all over the place.
I bet they both slept like logs last night.

Jim told me he was OK as he was sure in his mind that the surgery was
being done by the best surgeons around for this type of thing.
It must have felt like waiting a life time for him though.
He was very good at messaging me with how it was going after the nurses
told him. I think he was relieved that they did not have to totally remove
the rest of her colon and give her a colostomy bag.
(it was in the cards and we knew it).
Jim even messaged Ian with the news as I am sure he wasn't sleeping very well
either until he knew she was out of surgery.
Won't know much more for a while so I am just keeping busy as there is still lots to do
around here.

Its what is known on this side of the "ring of fire" as "shake and bake" time.
the experts in this field say there is no such thing but we find the prolonged
heat wave does seem to co-inside with earthquakes.
The one in Mexico was centered deep down in the ocean which is a saving grace.
if it had been on land the effects would have been much worse.

Carole, Tracie is a survivor in life. Brave and fearless, she seems to get by on
her wits (even if its completely outside of the usual box we all live in !)
Hang in there.

Here Bond ,sorry late on parade ,all
I can think about is Tracie and how they
will fare once Irma hits Sunday morning
Winds this morning after it battered the
Turks/Caicos have dropped to 155mph cat 4
but will be crossing warm water after passing Cuba
so they say should increase its speeds again
Watched St Marrten SO sad ,and that Island
of Barbuda that got demolished 95% is going
to get hit AGAIN with the Hurricane Jose that
is following Irma and is a cat 4...
Then I see Mexico had a 8. something earthquake
seems the WHOLE freaking world is going CRAZY

Tracie text early this morning that she was probably
going to Steph's later today ,at least she will be with
friends and not alone

Gil's blood work showed his blood count is falling again
was a 12.8 2 weeks ago now its an 11. something
Dr's liaison said not critical but she is passing the info
to his Dr and at least they will be on top of it ,his
urine was fine  confused2
Aid just showered him & coming back Monday and Friday
and the Occupational Therapist is due at 10am

Hope its good news with Melanie Marge ....

I feel so HOPELESS  unable to do ANYTHING to help Tracie
one of my FB friends from Coventry asked could Tracie
not come up here or was it too far ...well 2000 miles
is a tad far plus that is if she could find enough gas
to get out of Florida and then had enough $$ for the rest
of the way up to CT
I do not think my friend realizes just how FAR it is
from when you enter the top of Florida to where Tracie
is, is a 4 hr drive alone
 confused2

I shall be back later
Glad you had a nice meal Bond jealous of you enjoying  fish  n  cheesychipraid
Morning Vicky morning Marge

Jim sent a FB message about 1:30pm
saying she did not go into surgery until 11:30am.
He was told it should take about 7 hours!
He has already notified Ian.
I asked how he was doing and he said he was OK
and is at ease knowing that the best doctors are on the case.
He said rough estimate for surgery completion is 6:30pm
Pacific time.
I usually leave here about 6:45pm for my meeting but I
would rather be at home as my tummy is in knots.
I can get my FB messages on my cell phone (or mobile
as you in the UK call them).
Only thing is I have to use a stylus to enter messages back
so must remember to take it with me.

Some one in Florida is a bright boy doing evacuations in stages.
Hospitals and long care facilities today using buses. Elderly and
families tomorrow and able bodied on Saturday. There are tankers
holding gas on the west side of Florida filling trucks as fast as they can
to get it to the gas stations who are already out.
Its being rationed to ten dollars worth each vehicle so they get what they get.
(roughly about 5 US gallons) It will at least get them out of the storm zone.
There have been wide reports of price gouging so each company has been warned
that is supplying bottled water. They say its the vendors that are hiking the price.
The Governor says he will take legal action on any one who does this and urges
the public to take photos of signs indicating gouging going on.

What's complicating the weather situation is what's left of Tropical storm Harvey
is coming from the other direction.
Correction on the ocean temps, off Cuba the temps are in the 90s so plenty of
power for the storm. I thought having ocean temps of 70f here in Santa Monica Bay
was like a warm bath!
All you can do Carole is pray and hope that Tracie's higher power is guarding her.
That's what I am doing about Melanie. I will ask the group to say a prayer for
Tracie and Melanie tonight.
Its back to the 23rd Psalm again for me inserting Melanie's name.
My thoughts will be with you my love.

I knew my West Coast counterpart
would have a good explanation funnytvprog
As Bond said Marge you missed your calling
although I believe Ms Vicky is very knowledgeable
in some things as well ...

Well I dread putting the TV on the weather channel
as its getting my BP rising the closer Irma gets to the
coast

According to our local weatherman who was streaming live
from his home as he is out sick ,no matter WHICH way Tracie
decides to go she will get STUCK from either the winds or rising water
surge that is expected as Irma comes on land early Sunday morning

Here in CT the weather is fine today the humidity is supposed
to drop again tonight so should be able to open up the windows again
and give the A/C 's a rest

Lovely flowers Bond and a shame about the man ...

Marge let us know when you hear about Melanie

Sounds like you have things sorting out ,hope you sorted the
dish washer out ...
I made boneless chicken breasts dredged in  crushed Ritz crackers
served with white rice and peas/carrots
Gil SCRAPPED his plate ,you would think I am STARVING HIM Shocked
He was out of it this morning when Amanda his Physio therapist came
he said he was dreaming about something all night about being the only
one who could lift something or or the other ,so whether he was tired I
do not know
She put him through a few exercises and said even though today was
HER last day she was calling the Dr;s office to say she would like to extend
her visits for 2 more weeks ,but the problem was is this a physical problem
or to do with his Corticobasil which is getting worse and in that
case she can do nothing more confused2

Anyway must away for my shower
Blaine now has his car AND phone fixed cheers

speak tomorrow

The story of the man is coming out, he was 63 never married, had a brother but lived on his own, he was on medication that he didn't take either him and bringing the dog back before going out again makes it looks like suicide but will we ever know?
We do have a very historical site

Yes it was after the great fire of London the building reg came in where ALL the houses big or small had to be built of brick  1667 was the date.

I know how you must be feeling Margaret

Seeing he's been gone for such a long time it must have been expected......sad all the same for his family.

When the Pilgrims arrived here they had no way to make bricks
so built houses in the Tudor style like back home, a combination
of trees and mud and straw. They were all thatched roofed.
they made mud bricks for their fire places and chimneys only.

Bricks became a favorite of the rich as they wanted the grand
villas in about the 1890s , It worked back on the east coast as
it gave more insulation in the colder weather they have. and you could
build it bigger than your neighbors.

The poorer folk could not afford bricks so built with wooden framework and
used stucco to cover the outside. as seen in some of the early photos.
Coming out west they did not understand about earthquakes until the BIG
one hit San Francisco in 1906. It toppled every brick building in the city.
Then the gas mains caught fire and burned the rest.
The city has a lot of wooden Edwardian buildings now called "Painted Ladies"
(from the hippie era ) What brick building remain are re enforced now.

The first settlers here used the Mexican style of Adobe which is mud mixed
with straw and coated with Stucco over a wooden frame but used clay tiles
bent over their thighs and dried which gave the signature looking roof.
There of course were a lot of brick businesses down town later but the
1935 earthquake knocked a lot of them down so wood was the choice
until Steel girders were invented. ( one historic inn in James town burned
down twice and was rebuilt before the turn of the century so some do survive.)

We don't need the insulation that the houses back east do as they get colder weather
than we do. A wooden building is safer in an earthquake and we have been through
several in this state since we have been here. We in our local area are built on a huge
sand dune so a lot of the shaking does not affect us the way it does down town LA.

Mexico City is built on a clay bed left over from an ancient lake bed so they get a lot of damage
to their buildings made of mud bricks especially the churches as they are so high.
even buildings using steel girders have been toppled!
Thank goodness we don't suffer from Hurricanes as they zip across Mexico and out to the
Pacific because we have cooler ocean waters .
The same happens if one strikes Hawaii coming the other way. Hurricanes need warm ocean
water to draw on, we don't have it.
I heard that the temps in the Gulf of Mexico ocean were running as high as 80f!

Been taking it easy yesterday and today as I am stiff all over from lugging
stuff around. Melanie's surgery is scheduled for 10:30am this morning but who knows
how long it will take, I am guessing at least two hours minimum, maybe four even.

Had a nice meal last night sitting on the outside patio. I had a starter of crab cakes
followed by two roast chicken Tacos with rice and black beans and a large cup of
light home made lemonade.
I bough a crab cake home along with a taco to have for lunch today.
Still got to sort out how to operate the dishwasher properly. so its on with the
reading glasses and get the manual. Shocked

Cats are out like a light in this room, one looks like a round black pudding and the
other a round meatloaf!
Phone is ring off the hook this morning but Spectrum says I can block calls through them.
Will put that on my short list of things to do.
Must away, and wash out the Ice chests and put them back in the garage. TTFN

I suppose they've always been built the way other houses were built donkeys years ago Carole......colloquial style.....which I've always liked.

Oh Bond you do talk some twaddle.... talktohand well you won't find any barns or stables in Birmingham fantastic shopping centre but you do find stables and certainly barns in Birmingham, Knowle is in Birmingham you know Bond so is Solihull though Sarah who married James ( son) has her own horse and she lives in Bromsgrove, Birmingham.. Birmingham is a big place you know. BTW you might have a shed in your garden but a barn? Stable? Unless Jess has left her my little pony set. Smile

Jessica's been round with some beautiful pink roses and a really cute card. Awwww!!!

Why are the houses not built with bricks Vicky confused2
have no idea ,they pour the foundations with cement and then a few
bricks then its wooden structures with siding on the outside
One of the first things Gil and I noticed when we came here
in 1967 the lack of whole brick built houses ....
Back later run

Well been to the Doctors old him my tale of woe and I'm dropping a few of my tablets cheers I'll see how I'm doing if not I'm off to see him again.

One of our Royal Navy ships is on it's way to help the West Indies Carole. BTW why aren't the houses built by bricks?

Yes I'm thinking about Melanie......Margaret will be in knots as well. .

Why do you think that wouldn't happen in Brum Bond? Shocked

They say the Lord sends things to "test" us
well he is SURE doing a GREAT job ,on top
of worrying about Gil now I have Tracie to worry
over ,and then last night Blaine called at 6pm
saying his car would not start ,not the battery so
the starter AGAIN that was only replaced I think
last year ,he has a lifetime warranty on it if he has found
the receipt but it was how to get the car back home
Luckily we both have towing service through State Farm
our insurance company ,so he got Danny {Spencer's old mate}
to run him back over to where the car was and he is going to
replace the starter as he does side jobs on cars as Spencer
would need it where he works to do it..
Blaine is taking today off to do all this ,but tells me his company
are again slow so he is being put on furlough next week for 'lack
of work'

Tracie was speaking to her brother about a repair on HER car
when he got home and said she would speak to me later ,but never did
so not sure how her packing is going ,or WHERE she is going as Irma
approaches

Yes Bond the hurricane windows and doors are only effective up to certain
wind speeds ,we do not NORMALLY get many Cat 5 speed Hurricanes
with 220mph gusts sustained winds as Irma has of 185mph
Plus most houses over here are made of wood and siding not bricks

Looking like Irma is going to make a right hand turn Saturday night
and some computers have it going right over where Tracie is just a little
up from Miami ,others have it further out into the sea heading for the Carolina's
and up the East Coast confused2
The first place it hit Barbuda is 90% completely wiped out as its a small island

Puerto Rico  where Spencer and Carmen are SUPPOSED to be flying to
next Wednesday even with out getting a direct hit has 1/2 the Island with
out electricity and 50% with out water ,so not sure whats happening
there yet confused2

Anyway hope you all are fine and recovering ....again Melanie is in my
Marge for a successful procedure
Have the Physical therapist due today ,but the occupational nurse who works
Gil's arm  says Friday is his last day as that is all the insurance company
is giving her ,so I called the Dr last night to see if they could extend it any
 Back later run run

The news is they still haven't found the man that's been missing from Monday, they are dragging the rivers and canal in the area and asking people to look in their sheds and out housed stables and barns, you wouldn't get that in Brum

Thanks Bond SLURPPPP
Nice photo Vicky ...whats David standing on duck

Heard from Tracie's friend Steph who said Tracie is going
to follow them where ever they may go ,be it hunker down
or go to their condo in Oscala a little further North
The big problem now is every where is OUT OF GAS
otherwise Tracie was going to try  :driver:  back up here

She said they were helping Tracie yesterday get things
organized ,but she could not leave any way until Friday
after her "tenants' paid her ,I knew she rented a room to one guy do not
know who the other is ,while she is away
which also helps pay her mortgage I guess ,but Steph said she
is worried about Tracie's house as it was a "Fixer upper" I think
that is how she managed to get it so cheap ,probably because of the
WINDS and RAIN this Hurricane is packing
I heard the Governors house in St Martin is demolished after hitting
there earlier today and they said that was a substantial building confused2

Steph said she has all new Hurricane windows and doors recently installed
,but not sure how they will with stand winds THIS high ,but that should
they decide to 'stay home   Tracie had made sure they have plenty of water
and POPCORN  Mad  that is MY daughter Rolling Eyes

Bond maybe Marge could send you a  ticket so you could
do what ever repairs and touch ups she needs

Well done BTW Marge, as I told you baby steps .......
and my  for Melanie tomorrow

Speak tomorrow God willing
glad your eating Vicky

Well done Margaret on your new kitchen items as for those thieves what a down right cheek.....they should string them up.....it'll cost the owners of the cars a fortune to replace the catalytic converters.

My cousin played for an American Football team......can't remember which team it was now......a year ago he did a film of American Football. He's always been like his Dad, my Uncle who was more like a brother & Bob had his fingers in so many pies, ideas came thick and fast, and Gary is the same. He & the family live in Houston. I'll have to get in touch with my cousin Linda (over here in Newcastle) and ask about him....her brother Michael has always been in touch with Gary, Gary & Michael have also gone into business together, years ago, something about model solders, which made them some money and then they started doing something else......then Gary got married and moved to Russia confused2 they only came back when their first child was due then they moved to America.

Good luck to Melanie also.

Yes thanks Margaret I'm starting to feel so much better......certainly eating good meals, had lambs liver tonight.....mashed potato & carrots, cabbage & sprouts I'm just going to have a couple of slices of malt loaf.

Bob was really good at drawing Bond......think that's where Rob get's it from.

TA-DA!!!!!
Finally got my hidden password from Ian so back in business again. :-D

Computer and ipad working at full strength.
Fridge making ice and all the food I want is in there, the rest was so old it
was in there before Peter passed away so I tossed it all.
I like starting fresh.
The dishwasher is more high tech than I have dealt with before so left that
until I can go through the instructions a little closer.
I did get to mop the kitchen floor so it looks a lot better in there.
Now I have to put back in place all the items or furniture I moved so they
could get the old fridge out and the new one in.
Cats are always traumatized when I do all this so I have to take it in easy stages.

I need to consult an expert to tell me what order I should do the alterations as
I don't know where to start but I am not starting anything else until I know
Melanie is OK. Her surgery is at 7:30am tomorrow so I guess she will be going there
tonight for all the pre-op stuff.
Tonight I am eating with the girls at the Fish Shack(it seems that all these British
ladies crave fish and chips). I think I will have crab cakes as the three big pieces of
fish are too much for me.

I have an elf door but it needs repainting as it has faded in the bright sun we have here.
I also have a Mr. Tree face (eyes, nose and mouth) that needs paint also, it is also faded
now. It made people look twice when passing the tree in front of my house!

I am going to put it on the mountain ash in the back garden. Seems we have an epidemic
of petty thefts going on in our City at the moment. Bicycles ,scooters and assorted other items.
The most stolen item is catalytic converters right off cars parked in driveways.

Talking of Harvey, one of the American football players who lives and plays for a Texas team
has started a GoFund site for people to donate money to help in the recovery.
He thought he would get maybe several thousand $$ but so far has over 10 Million pledged!!!
Texas takes their football very seriously. Some of the funds will be matched by other NFL teams.

Now its Irma about to hit Florida. The governor has told them that this has the potential
to be worse than Andrew or Sandy so that they can prepare in the next couple of days.
He said "You can always rebuild a house and a life but you need to be alive
to do it." (or words to that effect).
Two hospitals have already evacuated out of the danger zone .wish all the elder care homes
would do the same instead of waiting until its too late. Its easier to evacuate than have to be
rescued in a deluge. Usually the owners are not onsite and the staff won't do anything unless
they are told to by the owners. They are scared to make any decisions in case they lose
their jobs! Its my guess that there are many undocumented workers in Florida working at these
places for minimum wage as there are in California.
Trump forgets his mother came to the US and got her citizenship through the man she
married or he might have ended up being an undocumented person.

Now he wants to get rid of all the illegals that came here as little children and this
country is all they know. They have never been to their parents home country or speak
the language or have family connections there either. The estimate is that there are
800,000 of these so called "Dreamers" that Obama gave a sort of amnesty to in the
hope that they could finish school and go on to University and become an asset here.
Most of them have no criminal record.
Once they find work with a company, the company can apply for a work visa and then a green card and
finally citizenship just like Peter did. (this is allowed under the rules of immigration).
It all takes time though, the waiting list is long and the government is slow to act on
anything to do with immigration these days.
This country needs more skilled workers as the ranks shrink with old age and the
baby boomers retire there will be lots more openings that cannot be filled.
Oh well, its not my fight any more.
Hope you are feeling better Vicky, I think we have been missed. tongue

Tracie getting ready to evacuate
said she will either go to her friends
Steph and Reena who live on the West coast of Florida
in Coral Gables ,that will still get hit, but the right side
of any hurricane always gets the worst winds so hoping
it will not be as bad as where she is now in Fort Lauderdale
She text me just now saying she was busy trying to get
organized but would either go to Coal Gables or another friends
home whom I do not know where she lives

It's looking good out there.......I'm still not up to going out Bond.......I was going to telephone  my Doctor for an appointment (if you phone at 8-00 you *may* get a slot for that day)  I phoned twice to be told by the recorded message "Surgery didn't open until 8:00  it was gone 8:00 already.....but to be honest I don't feel like going out AND he might not have read the letter David gave into the surgery yesterday or the one the hospital has sent.....so I decided to leave it today.

Awww I bet Jessica will be thrilled.    Have you seen the little fairy & gnomes houses.....something for you to work on. don't let Margaret's lot see them though......they'll go on strike.

Yes Carole as you said it's a public website ......as for Graham he's still a member of this website.

Oh I do hope Tracie is ok.      I like your daughter, nice girl......I don't know her but the bits I do know I just feel she's a lovely hard working young woman and we'd be great friends, don't know why I think this I just do.  Strange.   Oh and she loves bags.  Smile    we'd go shopping.

It's something I won't be doing yet. Sad

So you rang up the hospital again Carole.....well they aren't supposed to tell a friend what's going on OR when they've been released you know.....they're only supposed to give info to next of kin, which is David.   I'm not very happy about it.....BTW David told you I'd let everyone know  IF I WANTED TO just what's been going on.  Because Carole it would just be reported back on here for anyone to read......as it was......and maybe I wouldn't want people to know I was in hospital, or the reason. ....I could have thought it was private.  littleBlond it's just not us who read the site you know.

I think remember how Sara was when she was in she was getting worse by the day and ended up with more things than she went in with, Michael was getting her snack in, not all nurses are angles and the did spend a lot of time in the office eating Tins of roses chocolates
Yes I've seen the fairy doors in the shops abit expensive for what they were so I made a couple out of scrap wood
Good to see you

Yes I'm back....feel whacked at the moment but oh boy so glad I'm home, George Eliot's hospital is the pits. I only got out because I kicked up a fuss.....no nice lady anymore oh no....my health was at serious risk I'd already picked up a tummy bug....oh was I sick, from being "I'm fine I'll not be here long" to the kids when they phoned, & Bev, when I telephone them, did try to get on here but no joy confused2 oh I heard you'd phoned Carole but I was too ill to speak then....hooked up on drips, not able to eat....sip of water...being told I had to eat drink or I wasn't getting out....sorry but if I had I'd have been sick again and I'd be back at square one nono no no my health, I knew what was best and they all could go and jump....AND not all the staff seemed to know how ill I'd been "Why aren't you eating have you always just picked?" "NO when I came in here I was eating everything put in front of me, even though what ever I chose I,and everyone else ALWAYS got something else" "Well why aren't you eating now?" "Because I'll start being sick again, it's too early" even when I was lying in bed hooked up to drips and David got a shock the Sister on duty hadn't a clue why I was like that....oh she knew I'd rush off to the loo to be sick and fallen, oh but I'd not gone down with a bang the volunteer had rushed to me and caught me just before I fell and she'd gently lay me down nono tut tut not so....but I was too ill to contradict her.....then I'd been a bit sick and the drips where to take the sick feeling away ....just before David left the night staff came on duty and then the day Sister rushed up and said "Oh you poor thing I've just heard what you went through, no wonder you're feeling so rough" confused2 then she tells David how much I was sick, she hadn't a clue, but why didn't the night staff tell the day staff what had happened that night? Mad ...and that's how it went on, different day staff hadn't a clue, kept pushing me to eat, so it then was "You can't leave until you start eating as well as keep your blood pressure down" so then I thought I either go home to good food, good nights sleep (something else you couldn't get) or become really ill and be in hospital for a long time getting worse all because of getting a HOSPITAL TUMMY BUG and not getting my BP down headbanger so I told the night sister I was going home the next day, she laughed and said "You've got to get your blood pressure down and start eating" so I said "Well in that case I'll be here this time next year because I've got white coat syndrome, and I don't trust the hospital food" and she laughed again and said to one of the nurses "Hey have you heard this she's got high blood pressure because of us" so I tried to explain and she wouldn't listen just laughed like a loony, I'd tried to explain to the Consultant earlier on but got the "But yours keeps going up and down but even when it's down it's still too high" headbanger scream scream scream ....so I took it into my own hands. Anyway I came home yesterday but I wasn't up to coming on here.....I came in and Benjie made such a fuss, he couldn't understand where I'd been, kept looking at me "Where you been?" he just wouldn't leave me alone.....anyway David asked me what I wanted to eat....something light or a proper dinner and I said I fancied some with grilled or microwaved fresh tomatoes on the top....oh it was yummy, then later on I had hot milk and 2 slices of buttered malt loaf....if I'd still been in the hospital I would be trying to eat but not able to ....oh and I've taken my BP today and it's normal. Oh I could so much about that place. I feel sad that I've left some good friends still in there....and they're going down hill, we became the Three Musketeers ......Irene was so happy that I was finally getting out, she said I'd got a loving family who cared about me ( she'd met Steve & Rob as well....and seen the photos Susan had sent to me of her and Matt on holiday, They're in Santorini one of the Greek Islands Carole not in England, so they're 2 hours ahead of England) Shirley was happy too but upset because she'd miss me and my happy face, the one who made her laugh, made being in there better and now I'd not be there to cheer her up when she felt down, I'm going to go and visit them (they've been told they've both got to stay in for at least another two weeks TWO WEEKS affraid Mad

Bond you do know they already do fairy doors etc?

Oh oh you should NEVER let your dog drink out of dishes left out by owners of bars, cafes, well ANYWHERE. Tell your sister not to do it nono

More to follow.
