First topic message reminder :

Yes that's her Carole though like you she doesn't spring to mind, just have Marilyn Monroe of pop in my mindI know she had twins Paul & Barry who took up singing but Paul I think it was gave it up and just wrote songs and his brother went solo.....but I couldn't tell you the songs of either the Mum or the twins. I do remember the boys slightly

Yes it was Lily sitting at a table opening one of her Christening presents......this one is Lily getting Christened, hope you can see her ok....and the lady Vicar, who was lovely.

Had to join the group in order to see it Bond

Morning Vicky ,well where should I start
Barbara arrived at 9am gave Gil his shower
and then Lynne the new Physio Therapist arrived at 10'05
Gil likes her kept making him smile ,she evaluated him today
and will be back Wednesday at 10am
I will not be here as I have an appointment at 10am but Barbara
will be here to let her in
Someone we know SHOULD have been here at 10am he arrived
at 1230 AFTER I got back from picking up my scripts at Walgreens
I had called him after Lynne left asking if he was coming today
he said he was and had been to the store picking up a few things
but would be here "shortly" as I said that was 11am ...he is now
doing something with the mold under the sink
I did voice my concern that he would not be able to finish
all he has to do up here AND do the bathroom down stairs
if he is starting work on the 19th ,his reply he does not have a full time
job confused2

Good job I made the Shepherds pie yesterday for today as there
is NO WAY I could have prepared a meal as it is I will have to tell
him I need to put it in the oven in about 90mins so we can eat when
we normally do ,as it is my weight has gone up 2lbs all because
I have not been able to eat what I should be so the faster this gets
done the better

I will return run

You are both right.
He did make his tea leaves last
until there was no taste left but
that was true of most of the POWs.
He did play a forger who was losing his sight
because of working in such bad light half
the time but those documents had to be as
close to the real thing as possible to fool the
enemy as they were traveling by train when
they could.
Sometimes the Red Cross parcels were held up
either because the allied bombing went after a
goods trains or rail lines but also if the German
camp staff felt they were up to something.
When they raided the parcel store as they were
being marched out of the camp for the last time,
they found hundreds of Red Cross parcels that
had been withheld because they contained "banned"
items. The guards were getting
a steady supply from the POWs for favors done.
Coffee, Chocolate and Fags were prized items.
Remember this war started after the great depression
had just ended so the POWs had real stuff the German
civilians had not seen for many years.
I have a replica Red Cross Box given out at one of the
POW reunions that Pops saved to put all his other
memorabilia in.

Well, they are forecasting a 40% chance of rain today,
Usually if its at 30% we know we might get some sprinkles.
Its 57f at the moment with a high of 59f and a low of 47f.
I can see some grey clouds rolling over but they don't look
like rain clouds yet.
Did not get much sleep last night, I fell asleep with the Olympics
on which ran all night here. I know there are a couple of female
skaters who come from this area. It was the team skate which
I believe the Canadians won. Woke up at the usual time around
8:30am so did get some sleep.

Scrubbed toilets yesterday so its sinks and mirrors today and
that leaves the shower stall and the separate bath tub.
I need to go to Petco to pick up more Kitty litter so might
swing past Gassers Garage and see what is happening to Big Red.
I just want to remind them that the registration deadline is
coming up fast and it does have to go to Sacramento up near
where Melanie lives. It is our state capitol ,not Los Angeles
or San Francisco.
Just need to get another mug of tea and take my pills and I will
get started on another day here. TTFN

Good morning all, no Carole not that much snow a thing but covering but some ice under it and were it had bw in the trodden down so still left the car and walked into town
Most of the snow has gone now as it's a clear blue sky and bright warm (behind glass) sun light,
I've tried to get the photos off Facebook, but no good, of four vapour trails in the clear blue sky, you may say you see lots of vapour trails but these were in perfect line abreast and high if it wasn't for the trails you wouldn't see them
It's been said on Facebook they were F15s confused2

that time Spencer replaced the one that had also not been in
for THAT long ...good job they are under warranty and that Danny
is right here and knows how to take out the old one etc as
Spencer is back in New York .....

Blaine just took my 4x4 now to pick up the new one
so I will order a pizza for them to eat

Glad you got your problem sorted Bond

I shall catch you ALL tomorrow lets hope the news is
good about Big Red Marge :driver:

Sorry to be so late on parade but just finished the new book
and noticed that certain names were not in the lists of POWs.
Paul Brickhall for one , he wrote the book that started all the
interest in Stalag Luft III called "The Great Escape". I am
going to assume that when it was first published he used
an assumed name because of the official secrets act.
At that time the government did not want any details released
in case the methods might be used again in a similar situation.
Now of course its a different matter.
All I know was he was Australian.
Caxton was another name that I knew from Pops information as
he was in the same room with him. It seems Caxton and another
POW tried to breakout going through the base of the wire but
were seen and both were shot and Caxton survived but his
partner did not.
Its gets complicated as prisoners were moved around all the while
between the main compounds and a new compound to break up
the groups of people who were suspected of planning an escape.
My big Book of all RAF Bomber Command POWs (totaling nearly
10,000 in all) in ALL the POW camps is still missing some names.

I can give you a taste of some people you might know,
Peter Butterworth, Donald Pleasants, Cheshire ,"Wings" Day
and Stanford-Tuck. I am sure there are others as well.

I did not have any birthday parties growing up but my Mum
made a special tea for me with little sandwiches and a Jelly and a
small sponge cake which was iced and had Happy Birthday on it.
I usually got a card and a present of some kind.
As I got older
it was clothing Coupons for Hogarth's usually or she would make
a dress for me as a few yards of material cost a lot less than
store bought. She was good at deconstructing an old dress if the
material was good and making it over for me and you could not
tell it was not store bought!
It came in handy, her having four sisters younger than her!

Been watching a bit of the Olympic games and doing a few chores
but must get back on schedule as tomorrow I might get a call about
Big Red, I do need to remind him that the 2018-19 registration is due
at the end of this month and I do not want to pay a late fee!

Back to the grindstone again. TTFN

You know the only time I had a birthday party was when I was 5 years.....and even so I didn't have children there, I know I had Will & his wife Ann, (they got divorced a couple of years later) Bob, my Gran and my Mum came down from Newcastle and we'd gone to meet her (my Gran & I) from the bus station and when we got there and the bus came in she wasn't on it and my Gran went mad "Oh just like her"  we'd got home and Ann had made a birthday spread and my Gran was still going on  "Wasn't on it?" Ann asked oh that set my Gran off, anyway I'd gone into the kitchen to get a glass of water and the kitchen door hit something and I looked behind and this person was there giggling.....it was my Mum and she picked me up and then started to cry and tears ran down her face and onto mine, I was looking at her and wondering why she was crying......anyway she'd brought me a teddy which I had until just before I got married and my Gran told me I couldn't get married and take a teddy with me so it went into the bin and I cried, anyway I can't remember anything about my birthday party......whether my Gran had a wobble and I never had it in the end or what:confused2:  and my Mum was suddenly not there......what happened I don't know but .....dread to think.....but I wasn't going to have any children I do know that or my friend Janice would have been invited......I can only remember going to one party also which was that friends when she was about 6.      The boys didn't have birthday parties though, or go to any....oh Steve went to one when he was 6, Mandy's. who he went to school with.....Susan only had a couple or went to only a couple.   Not that I wouldn't have done birthday parties but they never wanted a party. confused2

We've got a water hose for flushing out blocked up pipes Bond.......you could of borrowed it.

WOW Bev must be slipping thought
she would want to sit CLOSE to David funnytvprog

SNOW Bond talktohand  nay lad we are warming up over here
as I said TWO days are showing temps in the low 50's
I have been known to be outside in my tee-shirts in the 50's doing
the garden ......not sure how much I will be doing THIS year though
with my hip

Yer I know Vicky my kitchen will SOON be back to somewhat normal
headbanger
My oldest mate in Coventry June Lloyd just posted a picture of herself
age 2yrs and someone said they had a photo of themselves in the same
sort of "pose " so I found MINE at age 2 and its right we all had that
same "look" 1944
June and I have known each other sine we were 6 yrs old she was
one of a handful of friends that my mum me and Aunt Dotty would walk
and bring to Nan's house for my birthday party in December
She remembers all that and what Nan would make and the "goody bags"
the 'guests' would be sent home with containing a slice of the home made
fruit birthday cake she had made , & some some sweets
She would always make a trifle  and jelly with fruit and birds custard
and little sarnies cut into little triangles
Such good memories from SO LONG ago 69 yrs ago now  Shocked

Glad you cleared ALL the MUCK then Bond
Back later

here now Vicky
and did you mean 5c {41f} as 5f would be -15c confused2
if its 5c that is where we are at and considering what
we have had I consider that on the mild side

So you sent Bev on her way I see ....did you let her sit
next to David ,Shot while you oversaw them

I just finished making a Shepherds pie for tomorrow as I just KNOW
I will not be getting close to the kitchen in time to cook anything
that takes "TIME" like yesterday we ended up eating sarnies AGAIN
as Keith never left till after 330pm so by the time I put some things
back on the kitchen counters that I need it was almost 5pm ,I have normally
taken my shower by then and gotten Gil all set for the evening

Tomorrow as I told Keith its going to be a crowded day as not only
will Barbara be here ,but the Therapist called saying she wanted to
come at 10am and again on Wednesday the same time ,then I have
yet to hear from the Occupational therapist and
Speech therapist all who will be wanting a piece of "time"
during the day Shocked

Its not that I do not want them here to help Gil regain a bit of strength
in his limbs , as that is ALL it will do its not going to cure what he has
but its also like we never have a private minute alone to ourselves either confused2

Anyway will await you coming back and when Marge comes in
and also when Bond arrives back run run run

Glad you made breakfast BEFORE going to
UNPLUG the Bond and DO wash your
hands WELL after won't you nono

Very dark here but at the same time very mild 42f right now
at 7am and in the weeks forecast there is a 52f cheers
Did you know its only 37 days to SPRING

Just have to pop out to the store for some batteries that I
did not get to the store that sells them in bulk yesterday
{I use them in my motion/security lights I have inside around the house
for when anyone wakes in the night }

Spencer text I just saw at midnight that he was back from New York
which is good as traveling on I-95 in bad weather is NOT GOOD

Whoo just saw on the TV that last night in Stratford where we used to live
2600 homes were with out power after two cars slammed into each
other after going through an intersection where supposedly the traffic lights
were not working and they hit a transformer on a light pole

OK better get on Gil had me awake last night at 330am he was up sitting
on the side of the bed and when I asked what he was doing he said he
wanted to get up ,I said NOT AT 330am and to lie down he said no YOU
lie down ,took me a while to get him to comply then he started talking
about what I do not know as you can hardly understand what he says these
days ,kept on until I told him to SHUT UP FOR GOODNESS SAKE headbanger

I do believe SOMEONE thinks I do not need my rest

MORNING LADIES

Weather report: present time its 58f
high for today: 62f with 79% humidity
low for tonight will be 49f.
Its cloudy with chance of showers on Tuesday
and rain forecast for Wednesday & Thursday.

Lorna called me yesterday afternoon saying she was
going out for a few hours at 6:30pm and I assumed
she wanted me to watch the animals while she was gone.
She knocked on my door at that time and said "Are you ready?"
It was Lucy's 80th birthday and we were invited to attend the
birthday party at the retirement place she lives now lives in!

Lorna is always a laugh so she took her green glow in the dark
skeleton from Halloween dressed in shirt and pants as Lucy's
date. He is as tall as Lorna so we were in fits just to see her
trying to carry the thing into the building as she kept tripping
over his feet. When we arrived in the party room Lorna put him
in a small wheelchair and had Lucy sit on his lap and when they
were taking photos Lorna stood behind making its eye flash bright
red and said "Look, you got him all excited"!
It was laughter all round.
The crowd was a mixture of some residents and us neighbors from
when Lucy lived on our street, one of her friends from High School
back east and her daughter and son with Lucy's two grand kids.
It was a delightful evening all round.
It was of course tea- total so after we got back I went over with
Lorna to see that she got in her door without falling over our
green friend and had a margarita to finish off the evening.
Plans are being made to have another N/H get together, first
we need an excuse and go from there.

Joanne was a little worried as she had left Andy trying to fix the
showerhead in the bath tub .This is the man that just had his second
knee transplant and he was balancing on the free edge of the tub
instead of using a ladder or paying some one to come and do it
for him. So Joanne said, "you are such a stubborn man" and
left him to it! She said she half expected to find him in agony
on the bathroom floor when she got back.
I guess everything was OK as we didn't see any emergency equipment
outside their house when we got back.
When Lucy first moved onto our street she thought we were all a bit
but was joining in in no time.
She needs to be where she is but its only a short drive so we visit when we can.
We found out she was a closet smoker plus she was not taking all her meds.
She is allowed to have her two cats with her and she is a craft person so is
kept busy with projects and NO smoking.
She is not above being a rebel when she feels like it as her pastor pointed out
from the church she attends. We just love her.

I just looked up two names in all the lists of
POWs I have but cannot find Paul Brickhall or Lee Canyon listed anywhere.
I know they were there, as Brickhall wrote "The Great Escape" and Canyon
did all the sketches of the camp and barracks and the lay out of the camp
which survive to this day. confused2
I have two toilets waiting to be cleaned today so must get it over and done with
before I talk myself out of it again.
Both ceiling bulbs have gone out in Peters office so that's next on the list.
Then its back to mounds and mounds of paperwork
TTFN

Morning you two ,Gil woke me at 530am
had to pee ,but then I saw Tabitha out in the
hallway picked her up and she was purring away
so decided to get up and feed her,she misses her Daddy
A LOT ,Spencer said Carmen told him to bring her over
but as he told her she is not like a dog you can take
for visits she would not know what or where to go over there
guess if he was there PERMANENT it would be different

So here I be one please Bond

I see Atherstone has it dry and Vicky saying its
I think we should be mainly dry today but VERY wet tomorrow
milder though and that is why its rain and NOT SNOW
THANK GOODNESS

Vicky Keith supposedly is a LONG TIME FRIEND of our Landlady
so something could have RUBBED OFF ON HIM funny
but NOT when my kitchen looks like a disaster area headbanger

Apparently she called him to ask if he wanted the 2nd payment of what
ever they agreed on ,he said no he would wait until he was all finished
Gil said he may be getting paid HOURLY then talktohand no
I doubt that but he certainly is taking his time would not be so bad if
he came at say 9am and STAYED till 3pm ,but no he pops off to do this or that
or like yesterday his equipment breaks DOWN headbanger

Anyway I told him to come at 10am today as I need to go to the shopper
today rather than tomorrow in the and while Blaine is home
so he said he will be here at 11am ...we shall see

Back later ......
MORNING MARGE

Its looked like it would snow here ALL day very dull
and over cast ,but no snow in the forecast ....

Well Keith was SUPPOSED to be here before 9am but
did not turn up until 1115am
and all he did today was sealed the counters with some nasty
smelling stuff ,then came in just after Barbara left at 1pm
to say all three of his batteries that he used to cut the back splash
in his tools was FLAT so he would now have to return tomorrow
and that he was going to have to leave soon ANYWAY as he had
a meeting for some training for a job he just applied for ,so I said
well if your starting a new job are you going to be able to finish
here , he said he told them he had to finish here first and could
not start until the 19th ,so that means he has to finish up here and DO
down stairs before one week come Monday confused2 I HOPE SO

Back tomorrow running late did fish n chips in the air fryer chips
came out great ,disappointed with the fish even following instructions Shocked

Hi Marge, fantastic story sad but fantastic.
The only thing left know about my dad and the war, the only thing he ever spoke about was one time in France he bought or stole half a dozen eggs and bread, well the smell of fried eggs would drift a long way, just as my dad's putting a fried egg onto a wedge of bread a officer stormed in and he and shouted who's is that so my dad quickly said putting another wedge on top "yours sir"

The last raid they were on, they had a new midupper gunner
aged 19.They were on their way back home when Pops
saw a German night fighter and told everyone to stay silent
and hold fire until told but as it got closer the mid upper
gunner lost his nerve and fired a burst at the fighter
which had not seen them yet. That drew the fighters
attention to them and they got shot up pretty badly.
One casualty was the mid upper gunner who was
dead before the bomber hit the ground.

Pops had given the order to jump out. Pops stayed
with the plane until he was the last one out and ended
up hanging in a tree by his parachute so no way to
escape and he had no idea where his crew was.

At that point he was found by local Dutch Police who told him
that as they were so near the German border, the guards
would be arriving any moment so no time to hide him.
He turned over his watch and cigarette case to the Dutch
jailer to hopefully be returned after the war.

It was returned in 1947 by the Jailers son!
(You won't find that in the book)
Our Dutch connection actually got a copy of the arrest report
in German and later sent an English translation!

Just found out why one of our older ladies has not been at our
meetings for the last several weeks. She got Pneumonia over
Xmas and had to be hospitalized for quite a while. She is now
in a rehab place and is due home in about two weeks but still
will be recovering for weeks to come as she is 78 and is diabetic.

One of our other ladies is still rehabbing 7 years after a surgery
that she had for a massive infection that nearly killed her.
She is going to 3-4 different therapy treatments during the week,
she also lives with a certain amount of pain and will for the rest
of her life.
Not many have been showing up for our meetings because of the
threat of catching the flu. One of the three strains is proving
deadly to seemingly healthy people. I think the older people
who have a history of regular flu shots are more protected than
the young or the kids.
The CDC (Center for Disease Control) has predicted that because
we have not yet hit a peak in this flu epidemic ,it may be around until
April or May!
Got my grocery shopping in last night so as to avoid the crowds today
and the weekend. Good job our closest market stays open until 1am!

I am going to have my nose to the grind stone over the week end to
try and make some order out of some of the chaos in this house.
I find I get to a certain point and it all appears again in a day or so!
Hi Ho, Hi Ho, its of to work I go. TTFN

Oh thanks Margaret, such interest on Peters Father.....I'll be ordering it next week, was going to just get it on Kindle because the book is £25 BUT hey.....Bev will have to wait for her perfume.

Went to the hairdressers this morning, got it straight, well in a long bob, but when I got home I decided I wanted it flicked up, so flicked it up myself.   confused2   Then went to Tamworth.....it was really busy in M&S restaurant but got a table for 2, we usually get two together, we like space to put our meals   Smile  anyway I was sat there and on the next table was a young guy with a small baby, then the Mummy turned up and took the baby, then a young girl walking by also with a young baby (future customers)  stopped and said to the young guy "Hello, it's been years, how are you?"  he looked at her as though he was trying to remember her and she said her name and he said "God yes, how are you, it must be about what twelve years" then he said "This is my wife Rachael and baby Kyle" she said her baby was Molly who was 6 months (I know I was ear wigging)  he said Kyle was 4 months....she asked where he was living now and he said they'd been living in Loughborough but they've now moved to Anglesey, they'd moved when Kyle was 2 weeks old, they were here for the weekend visiting his Mum, and he pointed towards where the queue for ordering the meals was, he said Rachael came from Wales and they'd moved nearer to her family, anyway she then said "Lovely seeing you again"  nodded to Rachael and walked away, he then started to tell Rachael how he knew her, though his voice was very quiet and all I caught was "Geography"  confused2  then he went off to his Mum, I thought how are they all going to sit around that small table, then noticed another  table for one empty so said to the Girl "Excuse me" she said "Yes?" and I said "Is there someone else joining you?" and she said his Mum so I said "Look I could go there and you can have this table as well" she said "Are you sure?" I said I was.....so moved the table for her so it was a table for four.....and I moved to the other small table.   My good deed for the day.....when David noticed I'd moved I told him why and I said "My good deed for the day" he said "Well don't do another one" Smile

Yes Carole when you think of those young, very young guys who went to War.....and then you have the yobs today who haven't got a clue.   Mad

Kids have been here.....Matthew is doing so well in his Mocks.....A* or A's in everything.....he's going to do his GCSE's a year early.

Well got to decide what to do for dinner......so back later.

Hi Bond.
