Yes I get that you couldn't take under age kids into the pub but surely it was different in 1950 when the wedding party was in a private room having their reception?

Your childhood and also Mrs B's.

Very strict licensing laws in those days
and no pubs had food service then.
Kids were not allowed on license premises
at all, even in a garden out back.
So we all waited in the parking lot with
a bottle of pop and a bag of crisps.
Couldn't even go use a toilet!

It was only when pubs started offering
more than meat pies that they were allowed
to have "reception" rooms which allowed kids.
We had my reception up stairs at the original
"Hare and Squirrel" (not the one that's there
now) and both Pamela and Vincent were
allowed in. (they were 12).
Once the pubs started serving food the rules
changed so that if you were having a meal
at a pub, it was OK for kids.
As a kid I remember women were not allowed in the
main bar, it was men only. that's why lounge bars
were invented. That was for couples.
(tells you something about my upbringing!)

I'm sure it was different when you had a private room in which the wedding party was having their reception Bond.   confused2    Or maybe not, but to leave a small child alone in a side room isn't right.  surely even a small child was allowed to be in the private room in that case?..

Hi all, the thing that Marge said about people thinking that no after, it reminds me of mrsb mum and dad when the war was on and they thought things were not good they went to Blackpool for a weekend and spent £25 alot of money back then
I feel like Billy no stories
Back in the days you are talking about Vicky kids wouldn't be able to go in the pubs unless they had a kids room, mrsb spent her younger life in pub carpark with bottle of
Tizer and a packet of Smiths crisps with the blue bag of salt

Oh that was so sad about your Mum's boyfriend......though of course if she'd married him you wouldn't have been born Margaret,   Things are meant to be, but it's still sad.

Avatar is me when Will got married.....that was another odd day, Will & Anne had their reception in this pub BUT I wasn't allowed to be with them I was in a room all by myself....they brought food in for me, and then this guy came in and started talking to me but at that time Will spotted him and came in asking him what he was doing.   I was still left alone though.       Anne had 8 bridesmaids.  I was the only little one all the rest were in their  20's, years later when my Gran was in a good mood (you had to pick your moment) I asked her about it and she said I wasn't allowed in the pub with them that's why I was in a side room.   I still find that odd.

WOW affraid
As Bond said strange time in history,
not everyone believed that there would be
an "after" when the war ended so they pretty
much lived for the day.
The only story I have is that before my mother
met my dad, she was engaged to a police officer
on assignment to Coventry and on week ends
he drove his motorbike down the A1 to London
to see his Mum and Dad and report in to HQ
at the Met. He was killed on his way home
in a road crash. She must have been in her late
teens as she was 21 when she married my dad.
She was a school champion diver and swimmer
so taught at the baths down near Pool Meadow
which is how she met my dad.
She said he was a totally different person then
from the one be became.
It amazes me how complicated some peoples
past is and others are so normal. My Mum
came from a "normal" family and dads was as
chaotic as they come. Somehow we all survived
and lived to tell the tale.

Sorry a bit late today but I guess the whole week
just caught up with me so I had the dream where
you cannot move which freaked me out so its taken
me a while to come round.

We might be lucky and have it top out at 80f today
locally but the humidity is still at 72% which makes
it feel very tropical and monsoonal , not what I signed
on for at all.
June and Rob finally broke down and had A/C installed
for Rob.
I finally got all the stuff washed and put away from the
patio dinner so only have the two large ice chests and
the cats litter boxes to deal with today.

I have my new rollaway blind our half way and the sun
blind on the window round the corner down and it does
make that room cooler.
Maybe thought that I could get by with ceiling fans in
every room instead of A/C. they take less electricity
to run.

Got to prepare for my physical tomorrow at 10 am.

Also need to visit the local hardware store to get a
raw plug to fill in a screw hole that the screw popped
out of which holds the little grill in place for the forced
air vent . A thousand screws in the garage and I could waste
hours trying to find a bigger one to fit the hole but I just
think its quicker and easier to fix the darn thing!
It only take a few minutes.
I also need to change the air filter on the furnace.
Just found out we have a N/H watch event coming up in about
a week or so time, another pot luck event ! I am just going to
get a party platter from the grocery store, they are fresh made
to order.
Bet my large ice chests will be needed again for the drinks.

Well not as dramatic as your story Vicky
Nora Gil's mom went to London came back
pregnant refused to tell her dad who the father
was ,said after it was born it would be sent for
adoption but when the time came the old man could
not do it and so he and Nora's mum raised Gil as one
of their 10 children ,Gil found out when he was 16 just before
we met
Gil told me in 1995 Nora told him who his father was as
she was dying ,unfortunately he never told me the whole story
but judging by his looks when he was younger they assumed
he was somewhere from the Mediterranean Italy or Spain
as he was olive skinned and had that *look* ...
My dad's family hails way back from. Spain had the same look
as Gil at that age ,my mum almost had a heart attack when she saw
Gil the first night he came home to pick me up ,as he resembled
my dad SO MUCH...
The family said it was weird I had found someone that looked
so much !like my dad being as I had NEVER even seen him or a photo
of him
Well picked up the death certificates the official cause of death was
Cardiac arrest along with the Cortocobasil degeneration and something Stenosis
So his Dr was right he said it would be a toss up what took him first with
that valve so closed up

Ok I will be back move over a bit will ya ladies

Oh my Mum told me she was my Mum when I was 5, much to my puzzlement, she didn't live with us after I was 2, my Gran brought me up, though when I was 5 she had married and came to "Get her child"  my Gran had other ideas.....my Mum never really liked me after that, join the queue.....my Gran blamed me for dragging her down to Lancashire having to give up her lovely house in Newcastle, her instructions to my Mum had been "Have the baby adopted and then come home"   one baby was adopted, one was kept, so rather than have her daughter turn up with a baby in tow my Gran sold up and came down to Lancashire, moving in with her brother......daft thing is she could have let her daughter & the boy who worshipped the ground she walked on marry after my Mum realised she was pregnant, but he wasn't good enough for my Gran so she sent my Mum away to her Uncle Jim (my Gran's brother) with her Mum's instructions, my Dad twice came down to Bolton to see Winnie but because my Gran ruled her from afar twice she wouldn't see him, it was only when I was 2 my Mum decided to go back to Newcastle to tell him but too late he was going out with someone else so my Mum never told him, but Winniw decided to stay in Newcastle, it was her home, Bolton she didn't feel was, so that was that my Gran was stuck in Bolton, thanks to me, and my Mum was in Newcastle.....when I was 5 Winnie married, they came to get her daughter but my Gran held her arms out and of course I ran down the street to her and my Mum came and put my little case down and walked away, I didn't see her again until I was 6 when she came home, with the drunk in tow....my Mum was very ill, at the time we didn't know what was wrong with her,  it was only after she'd died they found that she had been born with only one kidney and that was failing, in fact failed, and she wanted her Mum......they lived with us a year, a terrible year  for me, he was a drunk and a perv, until my Mum finally went into hospital and died,  she was 27.  though the day before she collapsed she had come into my bedroom to tell John if he ever went anywhere near her daughter again (me) she'd kill him (I'd been screaming the place down....and though my Gran & Will were downstairs & Bob in bed, nobody else came to help me).....the next morning he'd gone.....but that had taken it out of her and she collapsed, Will, her brother, always blamed me.    I was 14 before I realised how unfair that was.       Though Carole I'd known from young, before I was 5 that Jim, Will & Bob weren't really my brothers....and of course from 5 that Winnie was my Mum. so I didn't grow up not knowing.

If we had relatives from Newcastle I used to be hidden in the cellar....with a coal bag on a step telling me not to go near because that's where the devil lived, I was scared of coal bags for a long time. My Gran's sister in law who lived in Buckinghamshire, found out about me, came to visit, just before I got married, couldn't hide me away.

Apart from the odd head ache Bob was fine......luckily.

Now hopefully Spencer can now chill out.

Don't push Carole all 3 of us can sit on Bond's knee......btw no thank you to any heat.....it's just fine as it is.        Can't believe I'm saying that.

Well looka that ,well done Bond
you can either have two skinny minnies
sitting in that or one BIG FAT ONE tongue funnytvprog

See you and Gil had a lot in common regards
growing up thinking relatives were not who you thought

HA! Spencer just called me ,on his phone that was slowly
charging ,I know he said he was coming back on Thursday
but its not until FRIDAY the 10th as he was arguing with me saying
Friday is the 9th headbanger    told him to go take a NAP as
he was cranky from lack of Sleep
Seems Carmen's son was trying to rent a car as he wanted to hang out with
his friends who he grew up with over there as Carmen and Spencer
would be borrowing his mothers car to get around
Wendy was left a "bit backwards " after suffering it Vicky
as she had convulsions ....
that is why she gets on so well with little kids as she is still
one at times in her head

OK be back shall I blow some more heat that way?
run run run

The avatar is Bob with me as a baby outside my great uncle Jim's house, where we all lived, 5 of us, until I was 2.

Morning Bond ,beautiful skies this morning
going to be a dry day with maybe a few clouds
popping up later but no rain and less humidity
but that is coming back tomorrow
talktohand  No no Vicky I KNOW I could
have worn my original rings back then its just
I was upset and did not WANT to WEAR them
that is why I gave my engagement ring to
my mum ....and as to crisps biscuits cake
Lisa the Nutritionist was so happy with me as
I no longer take a packet of crisp into bed with me
only once in a while will I have a biscuit that sits
on the table for the boys ,and CAKE talktohand
Have not even BOUGHT CAKE in MONTHS
No I have to remember to eat SOMETHING at
the allotted times during the day and stop eating
anything after 8pm at night which I have been doing
that is how I am 20+ lbs down
Its just everything this last week has been OFF schedule

I think Buddy was doing a reenactment of LAST Monday as
he has been awake on and off ever since around 230am
walking around mewing ,now is is on Gil's chair

Spencer text me that he was on the  at midnight
and again at 4am after they landed in Puerto Rico ,said though
no battery on his cell as all that running he was doing before
they left he must have forgotten to charge it ,so HOPE he took
the wire for it headbanger as I only know they return Thursday
Aug 9th but have no idea what time confused2

Well hope you all had a good night ,I have some telephone  to make
today one to the funeral home one to the town clerks office to see if they
got the death certificate from the funeral home so I can go get copies
Tracie's old landlady Georgia told Tracie talktohand oh they are only $5
a piece ...yer RIGHT ....her mother passed some years ago as right
now they cost $20 each
I also have to call the State of CT as they have put me back into the
program that they kicked me off accidentally when changing to a new
PC system in April ,but nothing about those four months that they
told me I should get repaid for {paying for my Part B medical insurance }
This entails sitting on hold AGAIN for over 90+ minutes headbanger
as I keep getting told only the I.T. people can correct it and go BACK
into the system to get my refund

So I shall speak soon just drinking my one and only
then I shall see what my tummy feels like ,cannot eat first thing
would make me sick  Mad

Just watching the news of the fires and the amount of fires across the West
Breakfast and it's cornflakes and warm milk toast and marmalade Coffee tea orange juice and large L&L

You could have continued wearing them, nothing to stop you.    Jessica's Mum has been divorced from Roger for 15 years she still wears her wedding ring,  and  wore her wedding ring until she got married a second time.

Or crisps....... :biscuits.....cake.....oh anything you know you're not supposed to eat.

Looks like Spencer will be driving them
and himself .....right now I am a bit miffed
at him as to me they are leaving everything
to the last minute ....of course that could ALSO
be that I like to be way ahead of things ,rather
being early than later

He says all he has to pack is his shaver so I guess
he has his suitcase with him and will be bringing Carmen
and Jonathon HERE pick up what he is needing and leave
from here .....its 5pm headbanger

Fancy that Marge another thing we have in common
besides us being both born in 1942 born in Coventry a
ring with ♥️ ,of course my original one from 1959
was quite different not sure what happened to my wedding
band but I know my Mum had my engagement ring

Glad you enjoyed your night out Marge and was home early

I have been eating left overs the last two days ,have to get back
on track now as I can see how I would easily gain some of the
pounds I had lost if not careful ,and only because I am not
watching WHAT I eat confused2 I do not  go up a lot
just up a pound then down again but I had just broken the
180 barrier and was below it two days before Gil passed ,want
to get down to 150 at least as I know I will NEVER be 135/140 again
but its harder as we get older to drop  the pounds as I am sure
everyone is aware ...

Anyway just shower  and washed my locks so will catch you
all tomorrow

BOND LAST DRINKS PLEASE

Sorry to be late on parade but it was not because I
was home late or worse for drink.
(I actually got home before 9pm last night).
It was simple dinner, I made a mixed salad
of Romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes and cucumber,
adding items like chopped Danish ham, shredded cheese,
slices of avocado, sliced boiled eggs and croutons with
a selection of dressings. The girls made an rice dish with
shoulder of pork done in a mild spicy gravy.

I awoke at 4:30am to watch the grand parade in
Paris of the cyclists.and promptly fell asleep again!

This will give you an idea of what my neighbors are like
here. Two days ago a French flag appeared across the street
so I knowing that the two Sky team members were going to place
first and third promptly put out my Union Jack this morning!
France won the World Cup but the Brits have won their race at
least four times now so Tit for Tat!

Its 85f at the moment but feels like 88f with 56% humidity.
Fires still raging up and down the state and in Colorado now.
The lady I spoke of ,Pat is readying to evacuate her ranch as
the fire is now only a mile away. She has cages and transportation
for her animals so they have been packing items and paperwork if
there is a mandatory evacuation.
Death toll in that fire is now 5. Pity the guy they arrested did not set
that fire, it was a vehicle breakdown which caused the fire to start
from the catalytic converter which gets very hot and set the verge
grass on fire.
Carole ,I noticed you wedding ring. Do you know that my first wedding
ring also had hearts going round it ?
it went with my three hearts on a twist engagement ring.
I am still looking for a locket for Peters picture. I think I am going to
try and get an antique one as the modern ones are a bit flimsy to me.
I have a silver one that Peter gave me when I was 16 but it needs a new
chain or black velvet necklace to put it on. Peter never wore a wedding ring
but I do have his signet ring which he had to have cut off when he caught
a blow on his hand and his knuckle swelled up and cut his circulation off
to that finger. I am sure I can get it soldered back together.

I have so many ideas but am stuck still organizing all the "stuff" we
collected over the years. At least I found my straw hat at last, it was
hidden on the bed under a skirt! I thought I had not given it away and
then thought, well I did send of a bunch of straw hats ,maybe I sent this one
as well, but no, there it was right in front of me.
Must get my hair cut soon, its getting in my eyes again.
I remember going to a canal side pub called "The Greyhound" on one trip.
It was a summer Sunday afternoon and lots were there with their dogs to
have a nice cool beer. The dogs were so well behaved with each other.
Now I must get on washing up all the containers I used last evening.
I use a lot of plastic bowls and containers so nothing gets broken or lost.
They are reusable and come in handy for our alfresco meals.
Then its time to get something to eat and just relax. TTFN

taxi Vicky  don't think so
60+ miles plus tolls  in New York
Just called to find out how much long
term parking at the airport would cost
Spencer would drive his own car and leave it
there ,they said $18 day so that's $180
Don't know yet what they are doing but they better
decide soon as they have to be at JFK by 10pm
and depending on traffic it's over an hours drive
and I do not think Spencer has everything packed get....

What a carry on

Bond sounds like the pub Gil's sister took us too back in 1995
we sat outside watching the boats all going up the canal
and some docked and came ashore ,cannot remember the name
but Maggie lived in Binley  and we never travelled far if I remember
rightly
Back later being as Bonds on duty  I see

No no, Im here to do the he drinks
Yes the Kings head is nice on any day but on a nice day sitting outside watching the narrow boats go by, you drive through Atherstone town all the way down main street carry on past the railway station and the kids road drops down under the railway lines
When you come up the other side you have the canal bridge (nice little walk up the locks)
The Kings head is next just the over the bridge, plenty of parking,
Right tea coffee and large L&L

I suppose it would be too expensive to get a taxi to the airport?

L&L then it is ......

Can see Susan in this one as well Vicky
around the mouth especially

Well thought Spencer and Carmen had everything sorted
and seems maybe NOT as he just called to see if Blaine
could drive them but that would mean Blaine would not be home
until around midnight and he works 10 hr days right now and
as he puts it "works his butt off" no one else wants to do what he
does ,runs a tumbling barrel if Dave or Bond know anything about
tumbling parts in what basically looks like a cement tumbler ,not an
easy job and after being out the week BEFORE his Dad passed for a day
with poison ivy then last week for three days when he passed he cannot
afford to stay home ....
If it was not New York I might have taken them but I HATE driving to the
airport the only times I have ever done it was back when I was 20 yrs
younger so not sure whats going to happen yet

Hope Marge is feeling OK could she have tied a "late one on " at the
the neighbors get together she went to with her salad in hand last night ?

Thought I was only going to spend a "bit" today ended up as much
as had to refill up on toothpaste hair shampoo/conditioner ,Bounty
cat food ...the front desk lady Kitty gave me a sympathy card as did
one of the ladies who bags the groceries and got a hug from the lady
in the deli who lost her Dad last year and ALWAYS asks after Gil every
time I shop

Clouding up here but not supposed to get any rain today

Guess we have to serve ourselves Vicky confused1

That's good to know then Bond about the Kings Head being dog friendly.      That's what Benjie & Nessie do go under the chair or table and just watch the world go by.

Another photo of David.

Gil's ring on first then my wedding band
and engagement ring but cannot leave it like
that as having the extra band was making my
finger swell so when Spencer and I were looking through
some of Gil's trinkets I found a 10ct gold chain they gave
him from Hubble when he retired so will hang his ring on that

BTW Vicky your Stephen looks just like his dad in that

Your right Bond you can see its David

Vicky why were you playing two headball
I used to play that on the side of the house
I was born in and drove my Nan
with the thump thump thump on the living room wall funnytvprog

BOY this should be good seeing Bond walking around
in his new boxers till he leaves ...

Spencer is just packing now they out Midnight
tomorrow ....that's IF they ever go as its down now to THREE
Carmen Spencer and her son Jonathan ,who was supposed to
have his girlfriend take them to the airport in HIS car ,but its broken
down and now HER car is also on the fritz ,so asked Carmen's
daughter Aisha who was SUPPOSED to have been going with them
but backed out saying she could not afford it {even though her mother
paid for the airfares} if Aisha's boyfriend if HE could run them
he said if you have more than three bags no as he does not want
to SCRATCH his CAR headbanger ...
Cannot take Spencer's or Carmen's cars as they would have to pay
for airport long term parking for 10 days headbanger

Anyway Carmen just called him to take his case over to SEE IF IT FITS
{I told you my son would have rather stayed home }

Just been going through some of Gil's jewelry boxes ,to say he
had a THING about wrist watches would be an understatement
must be close to 15 I found ....confused2

Ok time for my shower me thinks its still 83f at 6pm catch
you all tomorrow run run

Another foggy morning here but it is gradually
cooling off at night so I can sleep better.
I did not get home from Lorna's until midnight
last night and woke up about 7am just in time
to see the last stage before Paris tomorrow.
The time trials are the last chance to shave seconds
off their overall time for the race.
Team Sky have riders at number one and three so
both will podium tomorrow.

I don't know when I am going get any work done round
here as someone has us doing another outdoor meal
this afternoon at Andy and Joanna's house at 4pm.
If anyone even suggests doing another one of these before
Labor Day (Sept 3rd) I will
I think the people behind this are Lisa and Lana the Chow girls.
Luckily I am only doing a tossed salad so I can pop down the
store and pick up fresh ingredients and have it ready in
no time.
I see we have over a dozen wild fires burning in this state, one
of which is getting closer to Pats farm up north of San Francisco.
They are not in any danger but they are getting the ash fallout
because of the wind direction.
The one near Yosemite has the park completely closed down as
it is proving hard to control in so much rugged country and
the smoke is blowing and settling all over the local towns so
its causing breathing problems.
All the Southern California ones are way east of us so not
a danger to us locally.
This is when our state calls out to other areas for more equipment
and men.
I can't imagine what its like to fight a raging fire in 100 degree heat
wearing heavy gear which weighs about 30-40 pound!
One shot I saw was Firemen asleep on a front lawn of the house they
just saved.
Got a couple of errands to run besides the grocery store so going before
it gets any hotter, TTFN
