I pray your not in any danger Marge
as the fires have reached Malibu and they have
Issued an evacuation there

Watching also that poor town of Paradise to your north
it's all gone and they are finding bodies of people in
their cars Sad
And watching the police chief in Thousand Oaks breaking
down talking about the massacre ,and now the wild fires
in his area
Awful ............. stay safe

Raining hard now here    speak tomorrow

Its a form of passive aggressiveness
is what it is. Emotional abuse can
be just as damaging as physical
abuse.
I always think that God is watching and
they will be judged at the Pearly gates
just the way I hope my father and his
mother paid for what they did while
they were alive.
The 2 mental pigmies deserve each
other but treating children that way
went out a long time ago.
Its good that they have other more stable
relatives to balance out their lives.

I am feeling a bit over whelmed by all that's
happened the last few days in the news.
Especially the shootings and now the new
wild fires that have sprung up in our State.

One fire is near Thousand Oaks where
the shootings took place and another is
burning unabated across the Santa Monica
Bay from us in the foothills.
People are trying to evacuate but the roads
out are partially blocked with traffic from
another fire.
There is also another out of control fire up
near Sacramento ( its not near Melanie)
The winds have been gusting as fast as
35 -65 MPH. Not only sparks but dust as well.

Edison says that because a judge found them
guilty of partly causing the huge Thomas fire in
that area before, they are saying that they will
be forced to cut off the electricity to some
areas where the lines go through the trees.
They have been trimming all the tree branches
as much as they can but it won't be enough
to stop sparks flying and you cannot use water
on an electrical line unless its turned off.

Here it would be a simple route around but up in
the Sierras its the old telegraph poles which
go all over the place in the boonies to get
power. They only have what we call Calor gas(?)
in large tanks otherwise and water lines , sewers
are only underground for the towns ,the rest are on
septic tanks. some get water from wells drilled
on their property. Melanie lives on an estate that
is a little more up to date thank goodness.

Its typical Santana winds , dry and dusty .
You have probably heard of the song that
Roy Rogers used to sing about the"Tumbling
Tumble weeds ", this is where they end up,
in California !
It started in the dust bowl of the 20s and 30s
and they rolled from the mid west plains to the west coast
over the years, seeding every place they went and
continue the cycle even today!

We don't get as many flavored crisps as the UK.
Its plain, BBQ, cheese and onion and salt and
vinegar for the most part .
I like very thin corn chips , they eat like a regular
crisp and are sprinkled with just sea salt.
I try to stay away from potatoes if I can but indulge
once in a while in a baked potato like bonfire night.
Its time I was back at work here , I just took a tea
break so its onward and upward. TTFN

Oh that's what I meant to put sour cream & onion. Carole.....now cheese and onion I like or just cheese crisps or salt & vinegar or even just plain crisps.....I do like the chicken flavoured ones as well though.   Not that keen on the BBQ ones though.

Nessie nearly always sees the new year in with Susan & Matt Carole....it's her birthday on new years eve....and of course Benjie and all the other brothers and sister.    We always say "The world is celebrating their birthday"  funnytvprog

Yes Bond that's what we've said "The kids won't forget"

Well the kids have gone......Rob said to Laura "How's Phonegate going on?"   I said "Phone gate....don't say she's had it taken off her again"  Rob informed us she'd had it taken off her a couple of months ago but she went into their bedroom and got it back, without them knowing but the other day they found out this had happened so took it off her again.....Rob said to her "So is that it just your phone gone or have they taken something else off you....like your shoes....or the slats in your bed" we were all laughing but I said "I can't understand your other Nanny & granddad not saying something because I would"  Rob said "Well that's a surprise" funnytvprog    but I would it's not right the way they treat her.

Ok back later....

Yes a grey day and they're saying it's going to  later so Benjie will be  his last one for the day most likely in the rain.

Kids arriving after school today for Rob to pick them up.

talktohand  sour cream & cheese Carole....I'll pass on that flavour.

I do love views of churches Bond.      funnily enough Susan sent us a text message saying they're going to Cornwall for the New Year, a place called Trewithian....lovely place, great views/walks....they'll be near where Grandma Peachey is buried  so she said they'll be   visiting her grave.    (they will be taking Nessie Carole it's a dog friendly hotel.....lovely hotel also)   she'll be taking photos of course which I'm looking forward to.

Ok back later......

Another view as I left the park yesterday
looking down towards what they call the "point"
where there is a small Lighthouse
You see many people walking the length every day
in fact Blaine used to do it after his brain Aneurysm

Its interesting reading just HOW the park was formed
back in the 18'00's as P.T. Barnum was instrumental
in getting it to how it has become for the public and owned
a beautiful home facing Long Island Sound here in Bridgeport

Hello Marge glad your ok except
for a few Mexican babooms funnytvprog
That's what happens to me when I eat Spanish food

Yes so sad about yet ANOTHER shooting ,the shooter was
a 29 yr old ex marine who it seems had had some run  ins
with the law and shot himself .

As to your Tabitha it's sounds like our Tabitha ,she had them all
over her the vet said she was having a reaction and gave her shots
in the office then a steroid to take in liquid form ,it helped then but
have returned so Spencer is going to have to take her in again

Vicky we have Sour cream and onion ,bbq and cheese well those
are what I like ,oh and salt n vinegar like I can hear Bond munching
on

Well it's 530 and the post woman is late again ,she is retiring next year
I heard ,she was complaining two days ago because it's pitch black
now when she gets here (normally it's 5pm) she wears a little head band
with a light on it ,she is only about 5' tall all you see is this light
bobbing along in the dark funnytvprog

Well Spencer just home it's his day off tomorrow ,and he is dropping
his Kia back off at the body shop as after he got it back he found
all these things wrong ,so it will be another rent a car
Speak tomorrow

That was probably St, Vibiana
or one of the mission churches.

Correction,
Shooting occurred in Thousand Oaks
an outlaying suburb of LA.
The investigation is being done by
Ventura Sheriffs Department
as they are an independent
investigator from LA Sheriffs Department.

Its to give those officers who might have had
people they know injured or killed.
(there were at least 3 off duty police officers
at the venue when it happened.) a chance not
to be involved in the investigation.
Lots of young students from the 3 or so
universities around the club/BBQ place.

Late on parade again I know but I
could not get to sleep last night worrying
about Tabbitha and the scab on her back.
She does not seem bothered by it, in fact
she has been very perky this last week
on the new canned cat food.
I finally fell asleep and did not wake
up until almost an hour ago.

I woke up to another mass shooting in
Ventura county ,the next coastal county
north of us.
The shooter had a legally bought Glock 45
with a larger than normal bullet capacity.
Still don't know why he did it but he had
mental problems that might be related to
PTSD. (he had served as a Marine at some point)
The Ventura County Sheriffs department lost a
29 year veteran and a Highway patrol officer
was wounded in the attack.

As you might guess it is being covered here on
every TV station.
The gun man killed himself in an office behind the bar.

Nice meal last night, we went Mexican and 2 of the ladies
with toe damage came. One wearing a walking boot
and the other with a soft fluffy slipper.
The lady with the boot had bunion surgery and 2 toes
straightened.
The other was just a broken little toe which not a lot
you can do with but tape it to the next toe!

I love that our sceptered Isle is the repository of
so much of our history even with all the bombing
during the war. So much damage was done to
Coventry history by the then council who
wanted a broad sweep from Warwick road though
the city center and out the other side for all the
motor cars it was building.
The Nazi bombing just finished it off.

I encourage Americans who are thinking of
going to the UK to go and see what history looks like
in the flesh so to speak. This nation is a toddler compared
with the rest of the world.
(which explains a lot!)
Dealing with a flatulent situation at the moment so
need to keep running to the loo "just in case" .
TTFN

Ah but our area wasn't supposed to get any rain today so as I said we went off to do our big shop and when we came out it was throwing it down. So people thinking "Oh we'll be able to do it today" not the case they got it wrong.....once again. confused2

I think it was our generation Carole brought up to put our husbands first......you're married you don't need friends. I know my best mate Janice said this in an email to me not long ago.....Colin didn't ask her to give up her friends, though her and I always kept in touch by letter even though we didn't see each other even though for a while we lived in the same town, but it was something you just did.....you don't need friends you've got your husband.

That's what I love about Matt's family they are all so close ....though my mate Lynne's grandkids are really close to her and her grandson often came to stay the weekend with her & Chris until Adam left home at 19. and her 2 granddaughters invite her out for meals with them.....which is lovely.

Right we're off out somewhere.

Morning Vicky....No rain here
and they are saying now the BIG
expected tomorrow will now start LATER in the day
so if you have things to do ,you can get them done
during the day as they were saying it would start
much earlier

It was not Gil who asked me to give up my mates
Vicky ,it was yours truly who just stupidly STOPPED
hanging with my mates ,guess you could say I have
always been a "loner" as only ever had a few "close"
friends even at school ,four when at Broad St
Gillian, Pat and Pauline ,then there was Val Neil
from when I was small who lived right behind my Nans
on Elgar Rd ,and Audrey Bush when Mum moved to Shuttle Street
,but no never a LOT of girl friends at all confused2

And of course over here it was only  Ruth for over 30 yrs just her & I
the two Amigo's , talktohand oh I see Linda once in a while
but she has MANY girl friends and is very close with her family
members I mean her grandsons even at 16 and 18 STILL some
weekends call to ask if they can sleep over what teenager does
THAT now a days confused2
But that is how the Italian and Greek families are I guess
And of course that was why I centered my attention AGAIN
for the last 21 yrs on my husband Rolling Eyes

Anyway I will as I said survive ........

Be back later run run run

Morning........we went off to do the big shopper  and when we came out it was  they had said we'd not get any rain today.  confused2   nono  got it wrong again.

Yes I was going to mention "Hot Lips" in MASH Carole.....we always watched that programme also.

That's the advice I gave to Susan Carole "Don't give up your mates ever"  though Matt has never been the sort of husband (or boyfriend when they were just courting)  who expected her to stop seeing her mates,  as you know she goes off to Ireland to see Anne without Matt at times.....comes here and meets up with mates, which I'm so pleased about, but of course they're a different generation.

Later.....once again a lovely photo.

You can watch the *catch up* Bond

Oh I loved Hampton Court Margaret, you can imagine Henry walking about.....though it was only after we'd got home and I'd read the book about it that I found out when Anne Boleyn was beheaded Henry had all trace of her removed but on one of the doors they missed the entwined H&A and so they're still there.

At least 20 years ago Peter and I attended
the ceremony of the keys in person
because Peter's cousin Janet was (and is still married)
to a Met police detective and his warrant card got
us into Big Bens tower and the tower of London.

It was a fund raiser for a young police officers
widow and young children (he was killed on the job.)
It was held in the Yeoman's social club which is
not open to the public.
Peter nearly go arrested for taking a flash
picture of the ravens being put to bed and
they took his camera off him for the rest of
the evening!
From the majesty of the King Henry the VIII
tunic at the keys ceremony to being let out
of the then locked tower by soldiers in modern
uniform with semi automatic weapons was
really spooky but darn fun.
Watching Big Ben strike the hour up in the belfry
was also a thrill as on the first "bong" we all automatically
threw our heads back but thank goodness had been told
it would happen by our guide , a former member of the
Infamous 'Flying Squad", we all were saved from being
knocked out !
I recall that with my Westminister chime clock every day.
It was thanks to Roger that I finally got my dream trip to see
Hampton Court and go through the maze.
Roger always drove like he had the flashing blue light on
and the bell ringing!
We were both very lucky to have friends who indulged us
in our dreams to rediscover our British history live instead
of reading about it in a book.
Sun has made an appearance just now and I have just made an
online appointment with Supercuts for 12 :30pm.

Gardeners have been and gone. Cats have now decided they
like the canned food they had at least 7 years ago and are
eating up with gusto. I got an assortment of tiny cans to
test what they would eat, so now going to the store to buy more,
enough for a few days to see if they will eat any other flavors
it comes in. Oops, Time to leave for Super cuts.TTFN

In 2014, commemorating the centenary of the outbreak of World War I. 888,246 hand made ceramic red poppies, each intended to represent one British or Colonial serviceman killed in the War was planted (they were on long wire stalks)...the poppies appeared to flow out of the Tower itself and ripple across the moat. ...members of the public were invited to apply for a poppy at the cost of £25, all names where placed into a container and drawn out Susan's friend Jessica applied for one and her name was drawn out.   I've not seen it but Susan said it's lovely.

Ceremony of the Keys
Every night, for about 700 years, the Yeoman Warders, often called Beefeaters, have performed a gate-closing ritual known as the Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower of London.

At exactly 21:52 the Chief Yeoman Warder of the Tower comes out of the Byward Tower, dressed in red, carrying a candle lantern in one hand and the Queen’s Keys in the other hand.

The Chief Yeoman Warder carrying the Queen's Keys

He walks to Traitor’s Gate to meet members of the duty regiment Foot Guards who escort him throughout the ceremony.

One soldier takes the lantern and they walk in step to the outer gate. All guards and sentries on duty salute the Queen’s Keys as they pass.

The Warder locks the outer gate and they walk back to lock the oak gates of the Middle and Byward Towers.

They then return along Water Lane towards the Wakefield Tower, where in the deep shadows of the Bloody Tower archway a sentry waits and watches.

As the Chief Warder (beefeater) and escort approach, the sentry’s challenge rings out.

“Halt!“
“Who comes there?“
“The Keys“ replies the Chief Warder.
“Whose Keys?“
“Queen Elizabeth’s Keys.”
“Pass Queen Elizabeth’s Keys. All’s well.”

All four men walk to the Bloody Tower archway and up towards the broadwalk steps where the main Guard is drawn up.

The Chief Yeoman Warder and escort halt at the foot of the steps and the officer in charge gives the command to the Guard and escort to present arms.

The Chief Yeoman Warder moves two paces forward, raises his Tudor bonnet high in the air and calls “God preserve Queen Elizabeth.” The guard answers “Amen” exactly as the clock chimes 10pm and ‘The Duty Drummer’ sounds The Last Post on his bugle.

Really interesting.

Oh it's a brill programme Bond......of course all the beefeaters live at the Tower, they've all been in the forces and there's only one woman beefeater so far. The Ceremony of the Keys are performed every night as it's been done for around 700 years.

Fireworks going off again.

Well after mowing up ANOTHER LOAD of
leaves from out back with the mower
I popped to the bank to turn in some
rolled coins of my loose change ($27)
Amazing how quickly it mounts up
went to get a money order for the rent but
the machine at the cash checking place was
down ,and was not about ready to pay what
the bank or Post Office want ,so have to get it
ANOTHER day as I doubt she will be here much
before December
After being as it was so gorgeous out I ran around
the park and took some lovely pictures

Relaxing now
