Ah but our area wasn't supposed to get any rain today so as I said we went off to do our big shop and when we came out it was throwing it down. So people thinking "Oh we'll be able to do it today" not the case they got it wrong.....once again. confused2

I think it was our generation Carole brought up to put our husbands first......you're married you don't need friends. I know my best mate Janice said this in an email to me not long ago.....Colin didn't ask her to give up her friends, though her and I always kept in touch by letter even though we didn't see each other even though for a while we lived in the same town, but it was something you just did.....you don't need friends you've got your husband.

That's what I love about Matt's family they are all so close ....though my mate Lynne's grandkids are really close to her and her grandson often came to stay the weekend with her & Chris until Adam left home at 19. and her 2 granddaughters invite her out for meals with them.....which is lovely.

Right we're off out somewhere.

Morning Vicky....No rain here
and they are saying now the BIG
expected tomorrow will now start LATER in the day
so if you have things to do ,you can get them done
during the day as they were saying it would start
much earlier

It was not Gil who asked me to give up my mates
Vicky ,it was yours truly who just stupidly STOPPED
hanging with my mates ,guess you could say I have
always been a "loner" as only ever had a few "close"
friends even at school ,four when at Broad St
Gillian, Pat and Pauline ,then there was Val Neil
from when I was small who lived right behind my Nans
on Elgar Rd ,and Audrey Bush when Mum moved to Shuttle Street
,but no never a LOT of girl friends at all confused2

And of course over here it was only  Ruth for over 30 yrs just her & I
the two Amigo's , talktohand oh I see Linda once in a while
but she has MANY girl friends and is very close with her family
members I mean her grandsons even at 16 and 18 STILL some
weekends call to ask if they can sleep over what teenager does
THAT now a days confused2
But that is how the Italian and Greek families are I guess
And of course that was why I centered my attention AGAIN
for the last 21 yrs on my husband Rolling Eyes

Anyway I will as I said survive ........

Be back later run run run

Morning........we went off to do the big shopper  and when we came out it was  they had said we'd not get any rain today.  confused2   nono  got it wrong again.

Yes I was going to mention "Hot Lips" in MASH Carole.....we always watched that programme also.

That's the advice I gave to Susan Carole "Don't give up your mates ever"  though Matt has never been the sort of husband (or boyfriend when they were just courting)  who expected her to stop seeing her mates,  as you know she goes off to Ireland to see Anne without Matt at times.....comes here and meets up with mates, which I'm so pleased about, but of course they're a different generation.

Later.....once again a lovely photo.

You can watch the *catch up* Bond

Oh I loved Hampton Court Margaret, you can imagine Henry walking about.....though it was only after we'd got home and I'd read the book about it that I found out when Anne Boleyn was beheaded Henry had all trace of her removed but on one of the doors they missed the entwined H&A and so they're still there.

At least 20 years ago Peter and I attended
the ceremony of the keys in person
because Peter's cousin Janet was (and is still married)
to a Met police detective and his warrant card got
us into Big Bens tower and the tower of London.

It was a fund raiser for a young police officers
widow and young children (he was killed on the job.)
It was held in the Yeoman's social club which is
not open to the public.
Peter nearly go arrested for taking a flash
picture of the ravens being put to bed and
they took his camera off him for the rest of
the evening!
From the majesty of the King Henry the VIII
tunic at the keys ceremony to being let out
of the then locked tower by soldiers in modern
uniform with semi automatic weapons was
really spooky but darn fun.
Watching Big Ben strike the hour up in the belfry
was also a thrill as on the first "bong" we all automatically
threw our heads back but thank goodness had been told
it would happen by our guide , a former member of the
Infamous 'Flying Squad", we all were saved from being
knocked out !
I recall that with my Westminister chime clock every day.
It was thanks to Roger that I finally got my dream trip to see
Hampton Court and go through the maze.
Roger always drove like he had the flashing blue light on
and the bell ringing!
We were both very lucky to have friends who indulged us
in our dreams to rediscover our British history live instead
of reading about it in a book.
Sun has made an appearance just now and I have just made an
online appointment with Supercuts for 12 :30pm.

Gardeners have been and gone. Cats have now decided they
like the canned food they had at least 7 years ago and are
eating up with gusto. I got an assortment of tiny cans to
test what they would eat, so now going to the store to buy more,
enough for a few days to see if they will eat any other flavors
it comes in. Oops, Time to leave for Super cuts.TTFN

In 2014, commemorating the centenary of the outbreak of World War I. 888,246 hand made ceramic red poppies, each intended to represent one British or Colonial serviceman killed in the War was planted (they were on long wire stalks)...the poppies appeared to flow out of the Tower itself and ripple across the moat. ...members of the public were invited to apply for a poppy at the cost of £25, all names where placed into a container and drawn out Susan's friend Jessica applied for one and her name was drawn out.   I've not seen it but Susan said it's lovely.

Ceremony of the Keys
Every night, for about 700 years, the Yeoman Warders, often called Beefeaters, have performed a gate-closing ritual known as the Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower of London.

At exactly 21:52 the Chief Yeoman Warder of the Tower comes out of the Byward Tower, dressed in red, carrying a candle lantern in one hand and the Queen’s Keys in the other hand.

The Chief Yeoman Warder carrying the Queen's Keys

He walks to Traitor’s Gate to meet members of the duty regiment Foot Guards who escort him throughout the ceremony.

One soldier takes the lantern and they walk in step to the outer gate. All guards and sentries on duty salute the Queen’s Keys as they pass.

The Warder locks the outer gate and they walk back to lock the oak gates of the Middle and Byward Towers.

They then return along Water Lane towards the Wakefield Tower, where in the deep shadows of the Bloody Tower archway a sentry waits and watches.

As the Chief Warder (beefeater) and escort approach, the sentry’s challenge rings out.

“Halt!“
“Who comes there?“
“The Keys“ replies the Chief Warder.
“Whose Keys?“
“Queen Elizabeth’s Keys.”
“Pass Queen Elizabeth’s Keys. All’s well.”

All four men walk to the Bloody Tower archway and up towards the broadwalk steps where the main Guard is drawn up.

The Chief Yeoman Warder and escort halt at the foot of the steps and the officer in charge gives the command to the Guard and escort to present arms.

The Chief Yeoman Warder moves two paces forward, raises his Tudor bonnet high in the air and calls “God preserve Queen Elizabeth.” The guard answers “Amen” exactly as the clock chimes 10pm and ‘The Duty Drummer’ sounds The Last Post on his bugle.

Really interesting.

Oh it's a brill programme Bond......of course all the beefeaters live at the Tower, they've all been in the forces and there's only one woman beefeater so far. The Ceremony of the Keys are performed every night as it's been done for around 700 years.

Fireworks going off again.

Well after mowing up ANOTHER LOAD of
leaves from out back with the mower
I popped to the bank to turn in some
rolled coins of my loose change ($27)
Amazing how quickly it mounts up
went to get a money order for the rent but
the machine at the cash checking place was
down ,and was not about ready to pay what
the bank or Post Office want ,so have to get it
ANOTHER day as I doubt she will be here much
before December
After being as it was so gorgeous out I ran around
the park and took some lovely pictures

Relaxing now

When the Girl Scouts were at Mojave
primitive encampment one year, we actually
saw the northern lights at night and took
a photo of it. I did not know you could
see them this far south but the conditions
must have been just right.

Its a really overcast day this morning.
It would look like rain anywhere else but
its not on the horizon here.

Down loaded the latest Elizabeth George
book to my Kindle and am about 3/4 of
the way through it. Have a couple of books
on my pre-order site which will down load
automatically on publishing date .
I have been consumed by the new Room
puzzle game on my iPad so much so that
I keep running the charge down!

It kept me sane after being bombarded
with political ads the last week or so.
Monday was really bad as every body up for
election locally left messages reminding me to vote,
(for them of course).
I think the only Repubiican I voted for was our former
Mayor, Frank Scotto who is running for State Assembly
member as I know him quite well.
We have another former Torrance council member
in Frank Liu who has been a member of the State
Assembly for a few years now, he is a Democrat.
I vote for the person who I know will represent our
South Bay the best.
I have not looked at the results yet but know who
our next State Governor of California will be as he was
declared the winner last night before going to bed.

Think I need some breakfast before I look at the latest
news. TTFN

Oh Iceland....sorry I read it quickly and saw Ireland  ......funnily enough Susan's mate Jessica and her young son Wilf went to Iceland last week,  an expensive place to go.....they saw the Northern Lights (the reason most people go to Iceland) but Jessica wasn't impressed, some days you see it better than others and she must have gone on a poor day.  confused2

Yes it's throwing it down here as well Bond and as you said it's been wet most of the day, we'll do the shopping tomorrow.

Well as normal its up in the air here
in CT as to who our new Governor will be
Democrat or Republican ,as there was only a
10.000 margin between them {we did have a Democrat }
but some ballots got wet during the heavy
as people must have filled in their ballots while waiting
outside lining up and they had to wait till they dried
as they would not go through the machines confused2
Some are saying they do not want 4 more years of a Democrat
as our present Governor Dan Malloy is not very popular having
raised taxes etc and they are saying the new Democrat Lamont
would be his CLONE
The Republican is saying he will stop taxes here among other things confused2

THEY ALL sprout things people want to HEAR BEFORE being elected headbanger

So Bond you are getting used to a new keypad
watch those little fingers then and LOOK OUT hoover  that
was almost my toes ................

Going to be sunny sunny  and warm today  already 51f at 5am

Hope the ladies both had a good night

I shall be BACK run run run run

nono Bond do NOT call me if you
have NIGHTMARES .....

Well after 6 weeks Spencer got his Kia back tonight
but its still not 100% as a rim was the wrong one and it was
SUPPOSED to have been redelivered to the body shop today
but I guess was not so Spencer said they can call him when it
comes in as he wants HIS CAR BACK as even though the Ford
Mustang was a 2019 ,he said it was NOTHING like driving
his car which I have to admit is a VERY smooth ride
He said the alignment is also slightly off {only another mechanic
would know this fact} so they said to bring it back and they will adjust it
but Spencer said they can wait until Friday when he is off as he
will not go with out his own car again , but is going to do the alignment

I keep thinking about when Trump kept prowling about like a Silver Back Gorilla whilst Hilary Clinton was speaking. Mad

My husband had no sense of coordination
so I bought most of his clothes for him.
Melanie seems to have inherited that gene from him.
Ian on the other hand can make even thrift
store clothes look good.

Its neither twix nor tuther this morning weather wise.
its partly cloudy and then partly sunny by turn.

Its polling day here. I just have to take myself up to the
local elementary school to vote sometime today.

I did not vote 2 year ago as Mr. Trump pulled a dirty
trick by having the FBI release old e-mails of Mrs.
Clinton from when she was secretary of State that
he claimed show her to be a security risk.
This 2 weeks before the election!
(They were neck and neck in the polls at that point)
I have most of my sample ballot filled out already.

The clothes I purchased arrived yesterday but did
not have chance to open and inventory it so will
do that this morning.
Going to save a stamp by handing the gardeners their
check directly when they come tomorrow.
Going to take a few photos with my new phone to see
what the quality is like. If I don't need to carry my big
camera it will make it so much easier.
Wish I could find my little Canon Sure Shot as its here somewhere,
it has a little zoom lens on it and a wrist strap.
It also has a very large memory card in it for a camera that size.
I also saw in one of my latest catalogues a kit that fits
an iphone to give it more options for taking photos.

Still have to change all the battery operated clocks but as long as
my Timex is set to the right time I'm OK.

Was cuddling Tabbitha last night and saw she had had a little
chunk of fur missing an the back of her neck with a scratch scab
across the little bald part. They must have been fighting at some
point but it was not in my presence or I would have been all over
Jagger. It was not beyond the realm of possibility that she scratched
herself with one of her hind claws which I do not trim.
Need to get going here now the workers have all been and gone at
the polls. Have a feeling its going to be a higher than normal turn out
today. TTFN

Goodness me Bond that's a lot of walking.

Went into the town first and got Rachael her 40th birthday present and card & wrapping paper. Then went on to Palmers had a portion of chips and a trifle and a of tea.....then phoned Steve to see if he wanted a lift to pick his car up....it had gone in for servicing early this morning, Claire had dropped him off at work and then said she'd pick him up later to take him to the garage to pick his car up when they'd done it but seeing we weren't far from Steve we thought we'd save Claire the drive.....which we did.

Finished my book ....brilliant, think I'll be keeping, chosen my next one.....it's Lee Child 's "Killing Floor" Bond....think you've read that one.

Later.....

Thanks for the update on Sir G Vicky
Watched the ABC morning news on that
lotto winner ,she is a 51 yr old mother of three
who works in the health care industry ,guess she
is divorced as it said she was ,single
She lives in Iowa and chose the lump sum
payout. So after taxes she got a check for
$198 million
It's a Foundation she set up for her grandson
who died at 24 weeks after living one day
to help others

Yes I would do the same Vicky take care of my kids
and grandkids first then my sister and give some
to charities both human and for animals

I am back from the pharmacy and it's STILL DRY
out side ,supposed to start after 130 we shall see

Back later time for snacks

Now that's what these big winners should do with their money Carole....when we did do the lottery I used to say the kids would be sorted out first and then charity....and we'd keep a bit for us. Though we've not done the lottery for years not since the price of the ticket went up. I've now got £800 saved up....which will be going to Susan & Matt to go towards their woodburner.

Nice always good to be recognized
or should I say appreciated where you work
like when we used to get our Xmas bonuses
of course THAT got smaller every year after
our president died ,he was the one he paid
for all our medical 100% , and full pensions
after that though the new bosses
said they could not AFFORD to do that so we
had to pay part of it plus they made us do a
401K and that was when we started to GO DOWN
along with the Manufacturing business over here

Woody Blaisdell KNEW how to run our company
those who replaced him did NOT

So I see your off out to eat ,saves on the dishes
right funnytvprog .... duck OUCH !!

Well its voting day today ,lets SEE what happens Shocked

OH did you see that one woman who won part of the 700+ mil
Mega lotto ,she is going to help people she said and has
set up a scholarship in her grandsons memory who was born
at 26 weeks and only lived one day .she got over 300+ MILLIONS
and said she is going to replace her old Ford Fiesta with a bigger car
so she can drive ALL her grandkids around ,I think it said she was a nurse

Back later

Oh Hi Carole......aww cute little fella, though he's not cute when the little devil is digging a hole on the lawn hiding his food.

Susan was saying her boss phoned her this morning and said "Do you want the good news or the bad news first?" she thought  "Oh crumbs what?" anyway she said "Give me the bad news first" he said "You've worked for us for twenty years"   she said "Oh and the good news?"  he replied that she'd been given a bonus of £400.....and of course her firm has a deal with lots of stores and so she'll get a % off anything she buys.....so they might buy the TV they saw in Curry's seeing that's one of the stores which they've got a deal with.

As to Sir Graham....him and his good lady are both fine.

Later.

Morning.......and it's grey here also Bond.

Yes Margaret I think in those days most men expected their wives to have the dinner on the table as they walked in from work. Though I remember doing the same as David walked in.

Just been nattering to Susan on the telephone she's working from home today.

Well think it'll be Palmers today........

YOu LOST your KEY PAD Bond ?
on what your CELL PHONE confused2

Heard from Marge so she is aware I transplanted
her message from yesterday ,said she had been
busy hoover leaves out of her 4x4 4x4
and was in the garage ,would be good if she could
clear things out of there and GARAGE one of them
That is one thing I envy Spencer in the winter as
his car is always dry clear of any snow and ready to go

So Vicky how was Sir G ? talktohand I know he PM's you
private and you do not want to tell us his business but
you could say HOW he was no?
Ok I was NOT planning on going out have a beef stew/soup
already cooking ,but forgot I called in my refills Sunday
so before all this thunder /lightening etc arrives
mid morning I must shoot over to Walgreens and pick them up
then I shall return post haste so keep the home fires burning
and the L & L's coming ,as I drink THEM regardless

Last thing to say is GOOD MORNING LADIES {although
I think Vicky is already on line }
