| Hi I haven't seen any of those ,I do remember something I had in cold weather on the buildings, it was a stainless steel container filled with cotton wool that you put a squirt Of lighter fuil in ,at the top was a little asbestos bit with a thin wire around it ,as much as I can remember you put a match to this until it glowed red ,it kept glowing feeding off the fumes, you closed the lid and put it in its little material pouch,in your pocket and it kept warm I think I sent away for it off the back of the paper or magazine I used to have the Tit Bits before we had a TV Hi Marg I'll have to catch up on your post ,I can see my dad who used to have a terrible coughing time in the morning and a spit into the fireplace, one morning I he had eight left in a packet of ten woodbines and they went into the fire , Hi Vicky yes it does go a little further into the corner and the door opens

| Peter always told of the way his mother cured him of his need to smoke. During the war and afterwards it was easier and less expensive to roll your own. One day, I think he was six he kept pestering her to let him try one. She finally gave in and gave him one which he ran down to the garden shed to smoke. He got a nasty surprise as she had rolled him all filters! Boy, did it cure him of ever smoking again. Its not like he did not try but never saw the point. I on the other hand started at about 16 with the odd one and thought I looked grown up. As was the case in those day both Peters and my parents smoked. I finally gave it all up in 1993 without telling a soul. I just lowered my amount each day until I was down to two. and just quit altogether. I have asthma so still paying the price. It took Peter 4 weeks to notice! I do not miss it in any way, and I can sit beside a person smoking and not want one. It is nice to sit in a restaurant and not see the clouds of smoke anymore Nearly all places here in California are non-smoking now, even the prisons! Peter's father quit cold turkey in his seventies! It is an addiction of course. None of us chain smoked, I used filtered cigarettes. Seeing the price, they are now makes me very glad I stopped when I did. Mr. is visiting again this morning but its 53f I think the clouds are rolling in gradually as some more rain is in the forecast later this week. I have the usual list of chores here. I had better get started so TTFN XXXX | |

I'll have to phone my boss and get him to send someone who can" wrote his report and left. Just sent away for some more books..... don't ask me how many books I've got but hey like bags you can't have too many. Erm Bond nice tree but is that where you've got it? | Evening........and we've had a couple of but managed to avoid them. David 's car had to go in for service, passed with flying colours. did some shopping, bits & pieces doesn't that sound like a song.....anyway then we went for a meal in M&S.....haven't been there for meal since the start of Covid. though on our way home "Are you ok?" she said in a breathless way "Yeah" I said...."But I've been phoning and phoning" so I told her we'd had to go out later so of course later coming home...."But I've been so worried" she said I asked her why on earth should she be worried "But I've been phoning you all afternoon" we're on our way home now I told her ...."But why are you so late?" she said I replied "Because we are" she said "But why?" I replied "Linda because we are" .ohhhh she drives me potty. It's a Diploma which is the highest Margaret. Now those are lovely flowers Bond......wonder if she'll get the same Christmas present this year, they know she loves flowers......or from a loving husband Bond No no the drains haven't been moved Bond. Lovely photo of you and Gil Carole. Oh I forgot to say......Susan helped her Dad to get the tree out of the loft while she was here, so it went up on the Friday and the lights and baubles went on Saturday. Never had it up as early. Oh bumped into our new neighbour the other day as we were getting out of the car and he, you know we know his name starts with D and it's either Donald, or Duncan or something like that, but what, will have to ask again, she's Diane.....anyway her husband was asking David how he was getting on, and the guy said "Now if you need us for anything, anything at all. lifting anything, anything at all, just knock on the door we're here" I thought that was ever so nice.......nice neighbours. Cars here Margaret unless they're the small make, are much larger, cars can't get into the garage unless they're a newer house and the builders have installed a bigger/longer garage.....Rob's is, but usually you'll find houses have turned their garage into another room, I can just back my small Seat car into the garage.....not that I take it out but David does. Next door {Old, been there years, neighbours} made their garage into a study come library....I went back to David "guess what guess what ....it's lovely, wall to wall books" David said "NO" Margaret I've got a wind up pig I think it is a pig, not seen it for years, dressed in a kung fu kit which sings Kung Fu Fighting "Everyone was disco dancing" and swivels it's hips. I bought it years ago, Matthew and Laura used to love it, they used to giggle away, i also used to do this goalie leaning against the post suddenly the play is coming down the pitch and the goalie is all alert but no the play is taken back up the pitch, then he's thinking we're going to score, he's excited, but no the ball goes wide,.....it goes on and on like this until the goalie taking no notice....and the opposition score....the goalie "Where did that come from" Laura used to say "Do the goalie" and she'd giggle away. Susan's friend Jessica used to ask me to do goalie too.....yes I've been doing it that long. Did you see when Paddington went to Tea with the Queen Margaret? Oh that was so good......and now we know that the Queen used to carry her marmalade sandwiches in her handbag. She had some a good sense of humour. She wouldn't feel out of place in here.....what a shame we never invited her to join us. Mmmm Charles is pretty silly at times.....I wonder Ok back later.

| Such a nice lay in and I feel much better this morning. It's on the cool side here but Mr. is smiling on us this morning and its 57f at the moment. I could not begin to tell you where our load -bearing walls are here! The door from inside the house into the garage has saved me much raising and lowering of the two car width wide garage door! (You know cars here were much bigger in the 50s!) We have seen what some people have done to their houses with the same footprint and do not understand what their thinking was! The ones who used an architect look much better. At least it has a main bathroom and a half bathroom here, where many houses this small usually have just one main bathroom. No suite or master bedroom as such. I have no idea how Russ and Shannon found room for FOUR kids when we found that two kids needed more space after sharing bunk beds for a while. I never had a room of my own growing up and shared a double bed with my sister who was 8 years younger than me! Everything was second hand including the flock mattress! (In good condition but used) Once a week we would shake it out to get rid of the lumps! I only put up what I feel like putting up. There will be a Pretty wreath on the door (around the Mr, Scrooge Lion head knocker) Cling film snowflakes on the two windows and the windowsills filled with Nutcrackers (All 12 of them) I also have groups like the 3 wise men that go on the shelves. I have collected them over the years from the most unlikely of places like the local big box DIY places. I don't see many of them anymore. at least not full size (About 12 "). Not all are traditional soldiers. It's time for me to take my seasonal look see. I think the den facing the view will be the Teddybear room! Lots of shelves in there. There are Xmas bears that only come out at Xmas time. (Including a singing bear who is dressed in a leather suit and swivels his hips while singing "Wont you let me be your Teddybear".) Daft, I am completely Daft! The Xmas train will be in there also. and a red wagon full of Teddies! I have teddy size sleigh and gear trailer. There must be over 100 teddies of every size including a Mr. Bean knitted bear! Rupert bear, Pooh bear and Sooty. Must not forget Paddington bears (I have at least 8 of them) One actually from Paddington Station! I am besotted by bears! Mine are cuddly creatures but I do have a few that are not to be played with as they are in costumes. It started as a joke with Peter about the number and size of Spitfire pictures he had all over the place, plus his David Winter stuff. I never had a Teddybear as a child, Peter had bought me one when I was 16, I still have him! I started slowly and before you know it, he was gifting me very expensive Steiff bears! That was not what I expected. Every time we were in London, I would drag him into the famous toy shop in Regents Street. Just to look at the bears! It got so I would drop him off at a pub while I went in there! I think it's called Hamleys , oldest operating toy store in London. 3 floors of every toy ever made! It's always sardines in there but so much fun. I have never come out without a bear yet! Its noon here and only one cup of coffee yet. I need food! TTFN XXXX | |

The bit I saw they had a invasion of ants and talk of the exterminator but Raymond said the exterminator left the work surfaces taste funny, what were you doing tasting the work surface? | I always get those two muddled up, was it diploma or certificate first. I know he got both Of course they are in the Weddiing album which I cannot find! He hade just finished his trainee training at AWA and then went to Lanchester, he finished there in 1959 I think and left for Cranfield in 1961.Right after we got married.
Along with his diploma from Cranfield, a DC ae. Diploma of the collage of aeronautics, later replaced by a Masters' first class. He thought about going to Bristol to do a PhD but in talking to some of those students who came from Bristol Engine company who said it would narrow his field of interest down to one subject so he did not go. (a lot more PHDs out of work then) If it's one thing Peter had going for him was that he was skilled in many areas so could adapt easily. which got him his research fellowship and his job over here. Thats what training on the job is all about.
So, it's going to be a long -term job Vicky. I went through one addition here and it only took about six weeks. I was done after that! Mr Vick who was the owner did us a favor and cut us a space for a dishwasher in the kitchen and a doorway from in the house into the garage. Saving me having to go around the front of the house to raise the garage door to get tools. There was nowhere to keep them in the house! Our main lighting is enclosed center ceiling fixtures so needed a screwdriver to get the screws out of the globes to take them off to change bulbs. Peter was never here when I needed him so did it myself.(still do) Other people added doors from outside. but it was safer this way.
Going to have some Yorkshire Gold tea and English biscuits. Vanilla creams, Bourbons and shortbread. TTFN XXXX

| Evening all. Think it rained in the night. Well written all the cards....this side have gone into the post box the overseas will go tomorrow. And the ones just stuck through the letter box will wait a few more days. Will also post Janice's presents to her tomorrow. I know as soon as she gets it she'll open it, she's like a little kid No Bond they were just sorting out the drains, they have finished, around spring time we'll have the cracks outside done and then the cracks inside, then plastered, and wallpapered. A long long way to go yet. and very expensive Carole. David is doing well now, nothing wrong with his heart, they did find something in his blood when he was in the hospital .....he can't remember the name the Heart Dr mentioned, though she did say they couldn't have been worried about it or they would never have let him out of the hospital......so we'll see what, if anything, they've found in the second blood test.....David might phone tomorrow. Jessica bought us a champagne breakfast one Christmas but we exchanged it for a lunch. One Hotel in Portugal we went to had Strawberries and champagne breakfast....we never did. Radio Caroline was a ship broadcasting music we used to listen at work, sad day when the rug was finally pulled from under them. The DJ's hung on until that was it. When we used to go to see Susan we always went to the Mall to look round the shops and have brunch and David always had eggs Benedict. We were supposed to have our Christmas get together, which we cancelled with David being ill, he did say "Just go I'll be fine" but I said we couldn't sit there having our Christmas meal and you not there. so we cancelled and we got out money back even though it was short notice, which they didn't need to. We got my engagement ring at H Samuels too. mine was £19 I'd been watching the game while this......I had to stop because "Can you talk it's Linda" "No I can't I'm watching England" Oh I watched a great film last night......"House of Gucci" true story. Right off to read really good. I wasn't going to say the result so not to spoil it for those who might have recorded it.....or what ever and didn't know the result. | |

| Good evening all,we are watching Earth Shot from Boston The Princess of Wales looks fantastic but looks like she needs a good dinner When the pirates radio ships started up before the days of Radio 1 A radio/record shop on the front of Skegness, the big plate glass window pointed out to see And it had a sign on it that said put your ear to the glass and hear the pirates ship transmission from out at sea ,they did it as if the glass was picking up the transmission 🧐 But my brother said ther was a radios speaker against the glass in the corner, too clever for his own boots ,he did build a radio transmitter and receiver that transmitted along a light beam , before the days of a Lazer , he tested it out with a radio ham a street away that their houses backed onto and to prove it worked you put a card over the light and it stopped, The games on still having a kick about yet You can see the Ariel on the one on the right | |

| Marge another thing the same Samuels was where Gil got MY engagement ring from in 1958 and if I remember right that was around what he paid for it Only difference is on Dec 4th 1959 ,we had been MARRIED a week Sorry your still feeling some reactions to the shots as I had none ,but wonder could it be having BOTH at the same time even though in different arms as I had my flu shot two weeks before the covid one Ok guess I'll go back to my recorded programs Btw doesn't your tv service have a scrolling menu on one of the channels to tell you what and whose playing etc _________________ Carole B [i]

| I also remember them being a pirate radio station. Best music around. It feels a little more flu-like today. but not too bad. Going to have to find Fox Sports1 to watch England play. there are about 200 cable channels on my service and no instant guide to find the one I want. The all-mighty NFL takes over on Sundays in the USA.
I like eggs Benedict and Champagne at Sunday brunches, The Mariott does a nice one. The Champagne is usually low alcohol anyway so would take a few to get you under the influence. Those flute glasses do not hold much anyway. I sip mine gently. Or if it comes Bucks Fizz style with orange juice I might drink it a little faster. (We call them Mimosas here) I do not have to drive very far, and I can avoid the main drag, I come home via back streets through my neighborhood. It's all 25 mph that way! Its 57f and partly cloudy here but its early yet.
December 4th 1959 was the date that Peter put the engagement ring on my finger. It was supposed to be at Christmas but he said he could not wait that long! How can you say no to that. It was from H, Samuels and he paid it off over time, all 18 pounds! It was three hearts on a twist. It has the tiniest diamonds in it. I still have it and the box it came in and the announcement in the Telegraph that is in there also. (I think he did not feel safe leaving it in his room at the YMCA, it was safer on my hand) It was kind of like Animal House there, Lots of teenage boys playing tricks on each other. The new assistant to the director got his WV bug dismantled and put up on the roof and reassembled. (He was a bit of a prig) no one ever found out how they got the pieces up there! (I never found out how they got it down.) My time has flown again and still have not had breakfast yet. TTFN XXXX

| 06:13:36 Morning I am REALLY late today looks like Bond is ALREADY sipping ,really do not see the idea with that as when I took Ruth away to Harrahs Casino with me on a three day two nights trip I won back in 1989 that was one of the "perks" a champagne breakfast We ate a hardy breakfast but never touched the Rather opting for a good cup of tea or coffee I did nothing but cough during the middle part of the night what ever is down there seems to come up until I guess my body feels like I might choke ,and makes me COUGH it away but my nose is clear so I guess Im getting there Weather today almost around where we SHOULD be in the low 40's and will at least be dry as yesterday it ALL DAY Watching the TV with the weatherman as I who is saying looks like rain Tuesday that wants to linger into Wednesday and NEXT Monday and Tuesday more of the same that MIGHT change to snow showers Bond Atherstone looks dry today but cloudy also in the 40's that is when it FEELS colder when the goes on vacation Anyway hope Vicky and Marge had good nights ,my daughter called me Friday saying she had to get an electrician as part of her house had no lights and also her internet and WIFI was out Well seems there were two wires behind a wall she had sheet rocked that were not connected right she thinks it could have been the guy who did the work for her but any way that is fixed now as I told her that could have caused a fire Then she called who her internet is with and they fixed that so she is up and running again Ok talking of that I must away trying to clear some of the JUNK that accumulates around my _________________ Carole B [i]

| Hi Margaret .....yes onions they say is good for you, they say that's why garlic is in so many dishes. I love onions but as you know not garlic.....they just have to show the dish garlic and I know.
Bond I don't think she's going to wear it more to ask her PR lady to hunt that one out for a present for her teenage niece.

| Well, The US are out of the World Cup! beaten 3-1 by the Netherlands. It was like the men playing the boys. I was prepared for it so not a big surprise.
Feeling a few more effects this morning but mild compared with the wooly brain I had after the second vaccination.
The first rain front has left but might be more soon. It was only about half an inch locally, but big log jams up near the two freeways that merge 5 and 14 up near the so -called grape vine. There is a separate lorry lane that passes from one to the other but being as the road surface was so slick there was an accident between a big rig and a car then a big rig skidding going over the top and falling down on top of the accident blocking the lower level. No one seriously hurt thank goodness.
Dont know what happened then but I must have touched something I shouldn't have!
I guess it's all up to England now (Thank goodness it solved itself) The ground has absorbed all the rain we had, but up north is nearly six foot of snow in the Sierra mountains which promise aquafers will be filling come the melt.
If it stays dry, I will go out and buy a new toaster as the old cheap one has broken. It did good service over the years but it's time for a new one as I have Pikelets frozen in the freezer. :-D From the British Connection of course. Don't have an open fire to toast them on. I don't think any of these older houses even came with a fireplace! It's all forced air heating. A little lactose free butter and black current jam Yum! Its breakfast time here (A little late because of watching the game) I might even cook the English bangers I also have. and make a batch with them. I think mushrooms would be good but could also do caramel onions instead. In fact, it has been proved that onions are good for you! Nothing like good old Pickled onions for clearing a cold.
Peter would not let me eat them unless he was too. It's so we had matching breath! Of course, he never thought that I might not like kissing him after he had curry for lunch! :-D He had a cast iron stomach, so he ate the hottest dish they had. It made my lips tingle. He would chase me pouting like a fish! (Until I made him brush his teeth and gargle with mouth wash). Those were the good old days before MS.
See Northrop-Grumman have a new flying wing based on the B2 but with lots more secret stuff on board, it is called a B21. Cannot say more. If they have work, then my company survivors' pension is safe!
See you later Alligators. TTFN XXXX
